And still shoot 9 over for the back nine??? By 3 putting 8 of 9 greens on the back nine that's how...

well seems like i need to shift more focus to putting now.. more specifically reading a putt. My speed was pretty good all day but lines were HORRIBLE. I'd say of those 8 three putts 5 of the second putts lipped out because I didn't have the correct line. And of those 8 three putts all 8 were horribly off line but hole high on the first putt. (Second thought while I wasn't chipping bad but not great or else i'd have been in much better position to not 3 putt)

Either way I've been having some ball striking issues lately and I have those straightened out it seems as I was putting great iron on the ball all day.

Anyone else have a round where it seems like one facet of your game just isn't working that day and it stops you from scoring?

I have that everyday, yesterday it was my approach, which left me 0 GIR's. I was also making stupid mistakes. I'd have an easy GIR and then I'd skull my lob wedge to go over the green, or an easy 8 iron and i'd somehow go over.

It is usually my wedge game where I get a little jumpy and flub my wedge shots. I'm also not making as many putts as I'd like.

In the game of golf, its a 1 in 10 chance that everything comes together in one day. There always has to be something wrong.

Just last week i played my first round with my new wedge and my chipping was great, lots of confidence etc. My driving and irons were doing there job as well, playing right on target for a new best score... well my putting was a different story with 6 G.I.R's that day i bogey'd three of them and par'd the other three, i had 6, 3 putts for a final total of 38 putts. It was awful to say the least, and i was curious to how my putting just all of a sudden went south. It used to be my most confident part of my game. Just goes to show like Dent said (1 in 10) chance to have everything going right.

dude I FEEL your pain! there's days where I'll hit 75% GIR, but score like crap. there's days where I'm scrambling and only hit like 5 GIR but I'll shoot an 80. this game's crazy!

I have that all the time. Mine is the wedges. I am having trouble getting them on the green at times. The other day when I played, I had a 48 on the front nine. Wedges could not even get the ball on the green, only 1 three putt. On the 8th hole, I started hitting the wedges better and then the game cam together.

After getting the wedges better, I proceeded to shot a 37 on the back. That is the best I can hop for right now until I can start playing more often. I think I need to warm up the wedges on the range more before playing and maybe that will make a difference.

When I read this my first thought was "this happens everytime I play"! Prime example for me recently was about a month ago I really struggled with my driver off the tee, I usually have a pretty nice consistent cut, decent trajectory that ill go 250-270. For some reason I started slicing badly, couldn't get rid of it, but I was able to play it even though I was losing a lot of distance off the tee. During the few rounds I struggled with this slice off the tee I shot an 81 and an 82, my lowest ever rounds! Now my drive is back in the groove again and my short game has gone off the boil and I can't score, very frustrating

If it makes you feel any better, earlier this spring I was going to the par 4 ninth tee with a 35. i was very excited..I had never broken 40 over 9 holes before. Driver found the fairway & I hit a wedge to 10 feet. I was ecstatic. I had a downhill 10 footer for 38. As I lined up the putt all I could think was "2 putt & you break 40!"

I ended up with a 41.

You do the math.

Yeah, a little strong on the downhill 10 footer.

that happens too me a lot with my iron game. I make good contact most of the time, its just the wrong damn club. My puttin has spectacularly (if thats a word) improved. Yesterday went out for 9. Hit 4 of 7 fairways. 1 of 9 gir's. yet had only 15 putts. I usually avg. around 20.

Feel your pain. I have been hitting alot of the greens, but not making ANY putts, and im kinda tired of it. When your lipping out alot, it means your really close, and i think that is the frustrating part. When your an inch away from making ever putt, it wears on you.

I remember at my old course, we just finished, and the guy in the proshop got on the inter com and said " now on the ninth tee, blahblahblah, he had only 19 putts for his round yesterday" (cant remember the name).
19 putts and he hit 11 greens. I WISH i could putt like him. I think we all do.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
