I ran across a great website on the physics of golf. Some of you may have already discovered it, but for those who haven't, give it a look:

Very interesting, thank you!

One thing that sticks out to me is this note about club face angle:
"The same physics works in the horizontal direction. If the clubface isn't square to the path, the ball takes off between the two directions, and much closer to the clubface direction."

This contradicts common golf wisdom which says that the initial path of the golf ball is due to your club head path, and the spin is due to your face angle. If the article is to be believed, this wisdom is false. To hit a draw, for instance, you would want the face angle to point down your intended start line (more or less), and you would want your club head path to point to the right of your intended start line.

Well I owe you a big thank you because I think you just may have solved my recent driver problem! I bought a new driver about a week and a half ago and when I tried it out on the launch monitors, I was consistently hitting a small draw for my ball flight which was perfect. I was hitting it ok the first couple of rounds I played but lately I've been fading the ball on almost every drive. I just realized that when I was trying out the driver, they had tape on it so I could see where I was catching the ball and make adjustments. Now that I don't have the tape I can't really see where it's hitting and I've always had the idea that a fade or slice was caused by a ball hitting more towards the toe of the driver. So in trying to fix my fades, I was setting up the ball more towards the center of my driver head instead of the toe where I was setting it up before. In theory, if I just set up the ball more towards the toe again, I should straighten my drives! I'll let you know if this works out tonight!

Thanks!

Dre
