The biggest thing I have learned...well...that I am trying to learn this season is to just back off a shot when I am not comfortable. I specifically remember two instances this season where I was on the green or the fairway or the teebox and just didn't feel it . The club, the stance, the grip, the ball, the tee, the wind, the ambient noise, the space-time continuum, man's inhumanity towards man...whatever it was, I just knew it was going to end poorly for me, but I swung away anyway and, of course, it ended poorly for me.

My last round (feels like it was ages ago), I backed off of no fewer than two putts and a few shots in the fairway and around the green. Whether it was to check the putting line again or reset my stance or go with a different club or wait for the wind to die down, I wasn't going to be stubborn about it. I can't say for sure whether or not it ended up saving me strokes, but it increased my confidence...and confidence is good.

This is one problem I fight, too, mostly on tee shots. I'll fidget with my grip, the ball position will look just a little off, something. I'll swing anyway and end with disaster. I've started to work on completely backing off shots, take my practice swings again and reset.

I have this problem on occasion as well. I'll be standing over my shot, telling myself I'm either too close or too far away from the ball or whatever the case may be, and I'll swing away anyway. After I produce the flawless sh*nk or chunked shot, the calling myself an idiot immediately begins. It's one of the many things that I need to work on....

Toughest thing for me to do is to stop mid-swing. Sometimes you know very early on that something has happened - you heard a sound, your grip slipped, you took the club back WAY too far to the outside, something - and you continue anyway. I'm trying to prolong how far back I can take the club and still stop.

Obviously Tiger seems to be the best at it.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
