Just curious what yardages the 7 wood players are playing them for.

I used one years ago and am now missing the club. This 1H isn't working out too well for me. Thinking about changing it out for a 7W.

What type of 7 wood are you hitting? Shaft? Recomendations?

Thanks

Yes, but the shaft length generates more club head speed and also the larger heads make the balll go further.

I get that, but I always considered the 5 wood and 1H similar and compared the 7 wood to a 3 iron.

For me it just didn't work out that well...that is the 1H. I generally hit a 5W loads better.

Years ago, my 7 wood was a longer club for me than my 3 iron....from the fairway at least. I still preferred the 3 iron for tight tee shots.

Loft Length Lie Equiv. Iron Equiv. Fairway

15° 41.0" 58.00° 1-iron 4-wood
18° 40.5" 58.75° 2-iron 5-wood
21° 40.0" 59.50° 3-iron 7-wood
24° 39.5" 60.25° 4-iron 9-wood

Borrowed this hybrid matrix from a manf. webpage. Never tried a 9 wood....but in most cases I've hit the fairway wood better with the only occasional exception being on tee shots....here is where the iron ususally wins out.

I think I went about things wrong and tried to substitue a hybrid for a wood...just didn't work. Should've stayed with the woods and maybe adopted a 4H to sub out my 3-4 irons....allowing another wedge to be added.

Dangitman.....now I'm really gonna have a complex about hitting this club. I was finally able to cover up the funny little pink ribbon thing on the shaft with some well placed electrical tape.....oh well.....gotta get home from 200 yards somehow...my 3 iron sure isn't taking me there lately.

Isnt there some kind of deal where you get a free handbag if you buy a 7 wood?

Grow up. You've already posted one snarky comment in this thread - now it's time for you to leave it alone.

I don't personally carry a 7-wood, but Vijay Singh does from time to time and he's a pretty good golfer.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I don't personally carry a 7-wood, but Vijay Singh does from time to time and he's a pretty good golfer.

I read recently in one of the golf magazines where Tiger was asked about hybrids. He answered that he already had added one "senior" club to his bag, a 5 wood, and he was sure that in a few years he'd probably add a 7 wood when needed.

I've got a 3 hybrid that is currently filling the gap between my 3 wood and my 4 iron. I had a 5 wood, but decided to trade it in (along with a putter and my old driver) for my new Nike driver. The 3h is working out pretty well for me right now filling this gap. A pure 3h for me goes 215yds. My 3w goes 230-240yds. My 4i goes 200yds. Those are yardage gaps I can live with. My 5w went 225, and I was struggling with trying to play it for less. Essentially it was doing double duty with the 3w. I briefly thought about using a 7w in what is now my 3h's capacity, but once I got the hang of hitting the hybrid I felt there would be no need. With the new space in my bag I threw in an old 64* wedge I had, but I'm considering getting a true lob wedge. The 4th hole at the First Tee of Augusta is 217yds from the tips and hitting my 5w always put me off the green (and more likely than not in the woods) on the back side. I use my 3h now and a pure shot puts me right smack dab in the center of the green. I think a 7w could do the same.

Seriously tho, who cares what any of us think. If the 7w is the club for you for that distance, then use it. As Iacas said, VJ does. And I just watched Allenby..or was it Appleby hit a 7W onto the par3 6th at the pga championship.

I don't carry a 5 or 7 because, well, I like my hybrids and hit them well both off the fairways and rough. I would think that a hybrid might be better out of the rough than a 7w, but it's all personal preference.

I actually like to refer to it as a "man-purse" thank you very much.

I love playing this course with my son. I look forward to this hole every time as it usually gives me ample opportunity to work on my short game. I've missed the green more times than I've hit it. First time we played the course, the yardage looked like the card says...about 207yds. My son gave me the strategy of how to play it: he said to not go directly at the flag as it was a bit right of center...protected by the bunker. He said to keep it low outa the wind and aim for the open left front of the green and roll it from there. This coming from a 9 year old on one of his first three or four golf outings with me.

I was highly impressed at his course strategy....his advice was sound and I told him as much. I used my 1H for the shot and guess what?......a low trajectory stinger sailed out towards the left side and faded back to the open front and rolled up nicely inside of 20' and came to rest. I looked over at him in amazement. He smiled and came over and game me "the knuckles" hand shake. I missed the birdie put but tapped in the par. It was a great moment....him giving sage advice and me being lucky enough to show him the fruition.....sort of a role reversal if ever I've witnessed one. That is a super course, by the way....such a well manicured resourse for young golfers to get into the game. We are very fortunate to have it here.

Don't personally use a 7 wood, I have used my dads one in the past and just found it ballooned a lot (Probably due to the shaft).

I love playing #4. To me it's the hardest hole out there even though they have #5 listed as the hardest handicap hole. #4 is a fairly narrow driving hole, especially from the back tees, and with the front right being guarded by a bunker you've got to place your shot just right if you want to stick it to the green. That hole was really creating a problem for me because it was too long for my 4i and not long enough for my 5w. I'd try choking down on the 5w, but that never seemed to help. I was real close to picking up a 7w at Bonaventure Golf, but in the end I figured out how to hit my 3h and the hole has become a joy to play rather than a chore.
