My 3/4 swing goes just as far or maybe even farther due to more roll out. I know I have a problem of casting and not holding the lag. Are there any specific drills in holding the lag? If I try to emphasize the lag in my swing I push most of the shots to the right.

What are your distances with your 3/4 swing? A lot of good golfers have short backswings -- you don't need to look like a pretzel to hit it far.

If you try to have a straight left wrist at impact this helps hold lag and the ball will just shot off with a nice boring flight trajectory

aeroburner tp 10.5 stiff
superfast tp 2.0 3 wood stiff
Halo 25 and taylormade tp 19 degree hybrids

Was more worried about keeping the lag during the downswing not at impact.

Just try and compress the ball into the turf as hard as you can. Using this, I can get 170 yds of carry with my 6 iron.

Okay, sorry to say but this helps me in no way...

Sorry, I was just trying to give you someting to keep in mind that I thought might help keep you from casting the club. Would maybe holding your wrist angle form the top and swinging with your arms, not hands.

This is going to sound crazy and you'll hate it but it helps.

Take a club 7-PW any in that range will do.

Stand over the ball in your normal stance, normal grip, just like you were going to swing at it.

Now bend over until your torso is at or very near to parallel with the ground.

Then hit the ball.

Do this until your spine is about to cave in.

TADA lag.

I mean there really aren't any specific drills to HOLD lag. Lag is created by the down force provided from your swing being in proper sequence (Hips, shoulders, hands, clubhead) Lag is generated and released by the force you provide and you can only maintain it so long as you are providing enough force. At your current swing if you try to consciously hold this position longer then your clubhead will never square to the target in time because your hands won't release quick enough. Lag is created naturally by the swing. It will increase as your swing becomes more powerful.

I'd have to disagree that lag will increase as swing becomes more powerful. If I can swing faster but still keep on semi casting the club then it won't benefit me as much.

Casting is when your swinging with your arms more than your body, arm swing causes early release, the reason i told you to try and have a straight wrist at impact is that it forces you to hold lag without consciously trying too.Trying to hold it as someone said can be disastrous,Make sure your taking the club back correctly on your back-swing with no arm lift, hip rotation and shoulder and shoulder pointing down at ball, this will help you get started right.

Not understanding this 100%. Can you elaborate? Sorry.

Um are you really serious? Maybe it was a typo and you were talking about my leg...

Righty to Lefty nailed it.

You can't really learn to hold the lag longer.

Golf is a game in which the ball always lies poorly and the player always lies well.

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
