My team wins our division and conference. I'm at like 5.9 which is pretty much around the top average, but since I played like crap this year, it didn't really matter. Our worst guy averages like 90, so you should have no problem.

Dont forget to play, all those nice range shots mean nothing if you can't pull them off under pressure. My advice is to play in as many junior tournys, as you most likely will play worst under pressure, and it's good to get used to the pressure. Also try mixing it up at the range, dont hit 3 7 irons in a row, pretend your on a course, Driver, SW, something like that.

well i still played 73 rounds this year so i do play and i quit baseball so i should play more the 70 this year but in my club champoinship i played well but due to baseball i had to drop after the first day but shot a 77 on the first day wich is probably my average at that course

Next year I'm going to be going to school in Oregon, and the school that I'm going to has one of the better golf teams in the state, and if I were there right now with my 7.7 index I'd be the #3 or 4 guy. The bottom end of varsity shoots mid-80's.

Here's what I play:

Titleist 907 D2 10.5* UST ProForce V2 76-S | Titleist 906F4 18.5* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist 585H 21* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist ZB 4-PW TTDG S300 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 54.10 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 60.08 | Scotty Cameron Red X5 33" |

Depending on what division your school is, Id say having a handicap below 10 gives you a good chance to make the team.
I started varsity in 8th grade shooting mid to low 40s on 9 ( we don't play 18 in matches), our teams isn't very good though.
The tough part is most definetly pulling off shots under pressure.

Rules violation ehh? Playing as an 8th grader? Maybe not, just we can't do that. Also the worst person on our varsity averages about 84. We had all sophmores/juniors/freshman, so our team is gonna make a run at states next year with everyone returning.

Our team just won State for Illinois 1a, and we had a 12 man varsity. Our school is private so It might be harder here, but I shot mid 80's to be 7th man. Our Top three players were all scratch golfer though. If you have a 5 handicap then you should be good

In my Bag:

Hybrid: rescue dual 18*
Irons: mp 62 3-6 irons, and mp 67 7-PWedges: sv tour black 52, sv tour black 56Putter: Studio Select 35" mid slant

That's not a violation at all. Some schools we played during the season had some 8th-graders. JB Holmes was on his high school team as a 3rd grader.

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
