I have seen manzella's hit vs swing video. in my swing i am just trying to swing the club in a circle but i feel like i am trying to put the club in a certain position on the downswing and trying to really hit the ball.
Is the real feeling the complete opposite? should it feel like everything starts away in one piece and the moment of the take away is what causes the hinging? as you start down there is no attempt to hit it and the unhinging happens on its own unleashing at the ball?

I feel like i am thinking so much to have the club come in a certain way to the ball.

Sorry, I have not seen the video you mention, but it sounds interesting, and yes, I know who Manzella is.

If you want to swing like the pros, the second part of your post is a good start. There's more that you need to know, so I will just quote from one of my recent posts.

"All beginners and other poor players that I have seen have the same problem. They use an independent arm swing that is not synchronized with their body movements. Usually their arm swing gets ahead of their body movements.

How do you fix that? Don't swing with your arms at all. Do the swinging with your lead shoulder, timing it to work with the centrifugal force and momentum, while tilting your head and upper body away from your target in your downswing. Of course, you are swinging with your entire body, but you must think of it as swinging with your lead shoulder. Your lead arm controls the extension, rotation, and wrist action. This is the body powered swing that is used by most pros, and made easy with the lead shoulder key.

If you want the details of this, read "The Golf Swing and Its Master Key Explained" by Noel Thomas."

This $6.00 ebook has the best explanation I have found of extension and timing, and working with the natural forces in the swing. For what this did for me, I would have paid $600.00. I found it very easy to read and understand, but if you have to have illustrations, forget it, there are none.

Those are good questions. I deal with them every day as I teach. My perspective comes back to teaching golf as a series of skills. Swinging the club is at times difficult because our instnct is telling us to muscle the ball. To learn the skill of swinging the club take a look at my video golf lesson "Is Your Golf Swing a 'Swing'?".

When you talk about hinging happening on its own on the backswing and the unhinging happening naturally on the downswing, we get a little confused in golf because good players do articles and tell you what they "feel". Hinging and unhinging is certainly second nature to them, but it got that way through practice. For well timed unhinging on the downswing, there are very things better than hitting delofted low punch shots. To have the club delofted and hit it low the wrists remain hinged longer into the downswing. This is the skill of striking the ball solid which I talk about the video golf lesson I call Golf's Most Important Lesson.

I hope this helps. I wish there was a way to completely avoid thinking while you swing, but it is a necessary evil as you are building your skills. Good luck.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • Hence your Avatar!😜 I drink a lot of water during the day if I’m playing or exercising. I get cramps otherwise.
    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
