Vokey Spin Milled v/s 200 Series

I was wondering if anyone could share some opinions on comparing the two types of wedges. I have read Erik's review for 2005, but I was looking for some more guidance from my peers [his /emoticons/smile.png" title="Smile"/> ]

I currently use, and love, the 56.14 and 52.08. I want to add a 50 degree, which I know is not available as a SM, so that decision is easy. I am also looking to get a 60 degree, and that is where I am stuck. According to the Titleist website teminology, I would be classified as a digger.

Any suggestions/advice?

What I meant to ask was if the Spin milled would really benefit someone of my abilities. I.e. will this club help/assist with spinning the ball back? Currently the only spin I get on wedges is accidental, slope created movement. Are there any other benefits to the spin milled v/s the 200 series besides increased spin?

Are there any other benefits to the spin milled v/s the 200 series besides increased spin?

They are useful for removing the covers from balls.

I've been playing a SM 58.08 for a few weeks now. As the name implies, the main difference between the spin mill and the regular 200 is that the SM has a milled surface that grabs the ball a little more. It almost feels like the clubhead is sticking to the ball a little. I find the difference between my SM and my Cleveland wedges is fairly noticable on chips and short pitches moreso than full shots (then again, I don't hit many full shots with any of my wedges). The ball does tend to check up very quickly with the SM. The one warning I'd put on these clubs, aside from their propensity to rough up the cover, is that they seem to grab a little more in long rough. Like the grass is bent over the club and gets more friction against the milled clubface. Still, I like the club and it does exactly what I bought it to do: let me throw the ball almost all the way to the hole and get it to stop very quickly. So, as with just about everything golf, it depends on how you want to play those shots.

I think you ask a very good question. Here is my experience. I used the 200 series 56.14 and the 60.04, with the standard S300 shaft. I particularily enjoyed the 56.14 off the fairway and off wet fairways, as well. I often used the 60.04 for firm sand in greenside bunkers. When I bought a set of Titleist 775CBs, earlier this spring, I took the opportunity to order the Spin Mill version of the above mentioned wedges, but with the same shaft that came with the irons, the NS Pro 100. Having a relatively slow swing speed, I have not noticed a great deal of additional spin on greenside pitches. I have noticed a slight increase on chips, characterized by more of a hop, couple of jumps and then stop. The wedges also seem to be a little better out of wet conditions, although if you hit down on the 200 series, they are very good, too. My suggestion is to stay with the 200 series if you already have them unless you have the swing speed to take advantge of different face and grooves. Both series of wedges are superb. Hope this helps.

Although Titleist doesn't make a 50* SM, you can have a 54*SM bent if you really like the feel of them. I know several guys who have done that.

      Day 37, June 10.  Today was primarily WFH, so I had several practice sessions (indoors, off a mat, into the net).  At least one each of U, 9, and 6-iron full swings with the usual priority.   I also tried a few times a putting type stroke with my 4H, as something I should probably learn how to hit (and what it does), but the mechanical shot at home off a mat doesn't tell me much of what it's doing.  That's something I should probably try on a real green, not during a round until I've tried it.

      Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.

      Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.

      Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
