I am serious!
He had a BeCu Ping SW that he hits for 150 yards, sometimes more. He hit a 300 yards drive on the par 4 2nd that left him with around 150 to the green (a long par 4). He took out a club, hit it perfectly onto the green. I asked what club was it he said in the most casual of ways "sand wedge"!!!

Needless to say, when he hits his drive 300 yards he calls it a "bad shot", and he doesn't even rotate his hips and body on the ball, he just uses his arms, and he can do anything you want to the ball; draw, fade, low loft, high loft, etc...

I was totally amazed today. And the annoying thing is, he does it like it's the most normal of things.

Today folks, I felt so little, so nothing.

a 550 yard par 4? the 150 yard sand wedge i'm not gonna bother trying to believe or disbelieve, but a 550 yard par 4? i've never heard of such a thing. not saying they aren't out there, i'm just saying i'd never heard of anything like that.

450yds Par 4......300yd Drive + 150yds out equals 450yds, not 550yds

but hitting a SW 150yds is nice....

Forgot to mention, the guy is very bulky. Not fat, but huge and bulky. I've seen my good share of strong golfers, but this one surpassed all. I still can't believe it how he played!

Yeah, some people are just blessed with bodies that seem to be designed to crush a golf ball.

I used to play with a guy who didn't even have a driver, just a hand-me-down strong 3-wood with a stock, no-name shaft, and he would consistently outdrive me. He probably hit it 320 on a good shot. Thing was, I don't think this guy ever broke 40 for 9 holes. He just didn't seem to care about the rest of the game; he just liked watching his drives fly off into the horizon...

I'm that guy, at least I was until a couple of weeks ago.

If you watch him very closely, does he "deloft" the club at impact, i.e. hands way in front of the usual position in relation to the ball? This might explain much of the extra length. Video would tell the full story.

Not sure about that, but I'll make sure to notice it next time. I plan to play with this guy a lot in the future, it's just fun to watch him play. He's a caddy at our club so it's easy to play with him anytime I want.

After a couple of years playing golf (20yo) I would go at everything 100% and deloft at impact. My SW was my 150yd club. I played like this for about five years until I got sick of having to land everything on the front of the green in order for it to stop pin high.

I have hit my 56 150 yds at the range... I dont depend on it on the course, commonly I will pull the approach or pitching wedge for that distance

what was his final score?

Yeah, what'd the guy shoot? Be the longest guy in the world, but as my favorite quote goes:

It's not about how far, but how many.

    • Day 48. Got out at lunch to the range to hit some driver shots. Haven’t had much practice there. Focused on setup suggested by @iacas and found some very playable results. I did try to hit a couple of bunker shots after that with much less success 🙃
    • Got a rare birdie on #18 Par 5.  Drive was good and left me in range of the green.  I was @ 210 from the center and needed @ 180 to clear a hazard area.  Green had bunkers lest, right and on back. had been struggling and most shots were short so I took the 225 club figuring back of green hit well. i did hit it well, @ 229 per SS and dead on—kind at the pin.  Ended up @ 1 foot off the back in short rough and lucky for me it was a back pin placement.  Chipped about 15 feet leaving a 3 feet putt for par which I sunk.
    • Yea, so to clarify for me. I do not feel the clubface much in the swing. I feel the weight of the club. I can feel if I hit the club off the heel or toe. When I try to feel if the clubface is open or closed in the swing, I feel it more with my hands, and less of the clubhead. I would classify majority of my swings as not feeling like the clubface does much of all. It feels like I hold the clubface open. In the finish, it doesn't feel like my left hand faces the ground. It feels more like it faces the sky. I will try to be more aware of this, but it was just the sensation I got when I was making what felt like good swings. For the most part, I was hitting slight draws or slight pushes.  On this golf trip, I had to hit a low 8 iron around a tree to the green. I made an alignment adjustment, and actively try to roll my hands a bit more to get it to sling around the corner. I do have a habit of not adjusting how the clubface comes through impact, and I can still hit the ball straight-ish even moving the ball way back in my stance and trying to swing out more.  Yea, my feels are more hands and arms, less actually feeling the clubface.
