Who else thinks that last years balls are much more durable than this years. I just love the hx tour, and to me, I think its a much better ball than the tour I. I haven't played the ix though. Anyone elses thoughts.

I played a dozen ix's. I find them quite durable. I have yet to take one out of play because it was scuffed or shredded. Very happy about that.

Now if they could float...I'd never buy golf balls ever again.

Ben Hogan is my swing coach.

i just played the tour ix today, and it is awesome. much different ball than the i. I was also generating much more spin with it.

I started using the ix religiously, this past winter.
I actually cut the cover of 6 balls during that time.
It's amazing how thin the cover really is on those balls.

I do consider them pretty durable, but with that being said.... they also felt heavier than the ProVX's, so I switched back.

My favorite balls from last year were the Titleist Pro V1 and the Bridgestone B330-s. But I did not like the new versions of these balls for this year. So I went on a new ball hunt.

I tried a bunch of balls including the Srixon Z-Star, TM LDP Red and Black, and the Pro V1x. I didn't get along with any of them.

I put the Callaway Tour ix and Tour i through a pretty thorough test in the last month and have come to the conclusion that I like both balls. But the Tour i is my favorite. It's a firmer than the Pro V1 but not by much. I very much like the controllable spin I get with short irons and wedges. The Tour i feels just fine off the putter too. So the Tour i is my favorite ball over any other I have tried this year by a decent margin. This is a bit of surprise because I used to just hate Callaway balls.

Callaway CTU Red balls of the past are still my favourite golf balls of all time, tour i and tour ix are still great balls though, i did find them to shred a bit more then other premium urethane covered balls, but the performance is top notch.

I really like the Tour iX ball. I don't think they are any less durable than any of the other "high-end" golf balls, but...has anyone else noticed this?...the Callaways feel slightly sticky.

Well, I found my combo, tour ix for play, and pro v1 for putting. And I haven't noticed the sticky about the callaways.

Tried the HX Tour today and it hit pretty good. Are the new "tour ix" balls from Callaway their replacement or are the HX Tours still in production?

Can anyone who has played both balls tell me the differences between the Tour i and ix?

Tried these out last weekend. They are DEFINITELY sticky in terms of their finish. Pretty weird actually. I seem to hit them pretty well but I don't think they are as durable as my '09 Pro V1x, which is my current favorite. The tour ix's seemed to get marred or scuffed fairly easily.

Well I played both balls - Tour ix and Pro V1x - today. It was super humid, 93 degrees and there was a fair amount of wind. Course was soaking wet.

Off the tee, I have decided that I like the Callaway. It could have just been the particular shots I hit, but on the few drives I used the Titleist off the tee, which was about 5 holes, I hit it a little too high for my taste. The Callaway trajectory was just right. Again, it could have been the swing I put on the drives with the Titleist , so I'm not positive. I just had slightly better drives with the Callaway for some reason. The course was super wet and I was hitting it about 250 t0 260 with zero to little roll for either ball. Off the driver, Callaway wins.

Off the long irons - 2i off the tee and 3 iron - as well as mid, short irons and wedges, I clearly preferred the Titleist. Better feel and ball flight in my opinion. I stuck one super tight with a 6 iron on a par 3. I do, however, have a tendency to hit my irons not quite high enough, and again, for some reason, I thought the Titleist went a bit higher, which, in the case of the irons, was a good thing. With the irons, Titleist wins.

As far as spin, again the course was wet, but the Titleist had slightly less than the Callaway. The difference was a slight hop backwards on irons into the greens versus a bit of spin backwards, Titleist vs Callaway. On pitches I was much more able to get the slight release I wanted with the Titleist. The Callaway I practically had to fly near the cup. For a pitch and run, the Titleist wins. I personally, would rather hit the ball all the way to the pin and not have to allow for backspin, thus I prefer the Titleist for iron play.

Off the putter, I could discern very little difference, but I like the smaller logo of the "Titleist" vs the "Callaway Golf v". I didn't have any sand shots today. Putter is a virtual tie.

Durability, there is absolutely no question that the 2009 Pro V1x was far more resilient to scuffs and cuts than the Callway. I actually hit two trees - trying to cut the corner on doglegs - with the Titleist and it didn't do anything that I could perceive to be a blemish. The Callaway got dulled almost to the point of being scuffed with normal use. Titleist wins again.

Though I prefer the Pro V1x, I have sleeves of both balls in my bag right now. I would like to test them out again on a dryer less windy day, but for right now, I prefer the Titleist.

No problem. I tried to give a very fair assessment. I find that golf balls, like putters, are a very personal piece of equipment.
