How many of you guys have had your clubs bent to fit you?

Just wondering as I've been flipping through here today..... how many of you 15+ and up handicappers have bought clubs right off the shelf and never had them setup for you? Do yourself a favor guys and get them bent. Lie angle can jack you around. If you draw the ball alot and can't figure out why... there's a good chance your clubs are too upright and need to be flattend out. Just a little advice to you guys. I never really was an equipement guy up till about 3 years ago. I go see this guy now who bends every single club as needed. I hit every club on a lie board and he bends them then we recheck them again after I hit them. You guys can improve pretty easily by having the proper fitted clubs. Never just buy clubs off the rack. Get fitted for some by hitting on a launch monitor and see what you really need. ESP. with drivers. Good luck guys.....

After playing for 20+ years I finally got my current set of irons fitted. They are 2* upright and I had the 6 iron weakened 1* and hte 5* strengthend 1*. The lie angle change has made a big difference in my ballstriking.

interesting.... i have had the shafts in my irons and now my driver replaced, but havent done anything with having bent. I never (still dont) really know the advantage of it, so wasnt really an urgency.

Can you bend casted clubs? I've heard forged clubs can be bent without issue but casted ones not so much. Is this true? Do casted clubs just less tolerance for bending?

I havent' gotten fitted, but I feel like my clubs fit me very well anyways. I might be the lucky guy right in that bracket. I did need to get my fairway and driver reshafted stiffer as well as asking for my putter to be trimmed, but my alignment is right there and my striking has been very consistent and controlable. The ball goes where I hit it so I don't want to change a thing. I am 5'10", lightweight, but I've got big shoulders from swimming so I'm pretty sure I'm right in that standard bracket.

I did the fitting thing twice and got nothing out of it. The first set I hit like crap so I went to different place that did some adjustments. I hit them like crap so I then went to the pro at my club. He told me that no matter what hit was feels most comfortable to me. I went back to using right off the rack irons and I hit them great. If you are hitting it well and have a little draw on your irons I would probably just play the draw.

Unless you are the "perfect" size human. And by saying that I mean the "perfect" size the golf company thinks a human should be then yes, you need to have your clubs bent. I had my sand and lob wedge bent 3 degrees flat and it made a huge difference. Matter of fact I hit my sandwedge in the hole from 100 yards out this past Sunday in a tournament!!!...My friend with the bending machine is getting a Callaway bending bar this week and then I'm bending my whole set....can't wait!!!!

i am going to get my clubs fitted on Friday. I recently purchased a set of MP-52 and love them a lot. I want to get them fit so I can get better with them. Do you guys think it'll help for people like me? At my handicap is it even worth it to do a club fitting session?

Forged clubs are easier to bend. Cast clubs much more difficult because the steel tends to be more brittle. Either way, go to someone with a good reputation for club repair. Had a guy bend an entire set of cast irons 2* with no problem. He knew what he was doing. Had two Cleveland wedges bent by another gentleman; the gap was turned into an 8 iron and the 56 broken at the hosel. Did not know what he was doing.

I've had my putter bent to fit me, as I had the face of the putter aiming down too far at address. I would hit the ball into the ground, and it would bounce a lot. I had the face angled a bit upwards, and now I'm rolling it pure every time. Not to mention a good 28 putts per round

Well if never heard of Bending clubs but i have had some of my irons cut down is that what your talkin about.

i ordered my mizuno's at a demo day so i had them fitted for me. not too sure if it made a huge difference or not but i feel like the club sits perfect for me. i hit on a lie board and ended up getting them 1 flat.

I'm worried if I go in for a club fitting that the fitter will tell me i need new shafts as well... I can't handle that kind of wallet hit right now...

Yes, it's worth it at any handicap. Read the new book Picking the Right Sticks by I think Tom Wishon. It's a small book and it de-bunks all of the myths about golf clubs and colf manufactures....good luck!

Thanks! how much does club fitting cost generally?? Can they adjust irons without switching out the shaft??? I got project X 5.5 shafts on my irons and absolutely love them. I dont really want to get new shafts unless i get 10-20yds longer per club... :)

Getting loft and lie adjustments should run from 30$-50$. Your putter will be another 10$-15$.

If they do a "dynamic" fitting, where the pro will go through each club in your set and tweak each one as you go they may tack on a lesson fee, so ask about this before they start, but they ussually won't.

No, they won't have to switch out any shafts.

Only reason they would have to change shafts would be if your shafts were way off. Like if you driver swing speed is 70 mph and you're using xxx shafts. That's probably not the case. Also, my "standard" Callaway's were up and down on the lie. Some were upright 2 degrees and some were too flat. That's something that most compaines don't do very well. Also a few of the clubs were strong and some were weak. If you have say a 7 iron that you hit as far as your 5 iron...good chance its a 7 iron with a 5 iron loft...
