Random thought, but I was playing at Bethpage the other day (The green course, not the black haha. I'm working my way up) and was wondering where they put the warm-up range for the US Open. The public range is pretty small and definitely not grass, so where did they put the pros? Also, which putting green did they use? So if anybody who went could fill me in that would be great. Thanks!

At the first Bethpage US Open they had it around the first tee of the yellow course and it looked like they set it up the same way this year.

They might have had an additional range in another location as the range did not seem big enough, but I barely remember. The way the first hole was shaped though, you had problems seeing the ball land past 200+ yards.

Green's a nice course. I like the design and flow.
They used Yellow for the practice range. The practice green I saw them use was the one by the pro shop / 1st hole of the Red. They had the merchandise tent on the first hole of the Blue. It's playing as a par 3 and still recovering. The 1st and 18th of Red are all chewed up from tents as well. Both playing as par 3s.

I played Blue and Red a few weeks ago. The first hole on Red is a beast, but I wanted to play it. Overall, the courses are in good condition. If your not from the area and want to play Red, I'd wait until next year when it's fully recovered. Black is in great condtion from what a buddy of mine tells me.

Black is in great condtion from what a buddy of mine tells me.

They held the New York State Open there 7/21-23. I saw the highlights on MSG Network, they said they had laid down over 6 acres of sod to repair the crosswalks and areas around the tees and greens. The area outside the ropes was still a mess and they were still taking down the hospitality tents along 18.

Hmmm, my buddy usually hits his balls outside the ropes. He didn't tell me that part. Maybe it was because he was able to find his ball. Relative to Blue, he said Black was better.

They are doing a lot of work. We saw a couple of guys mowing the 18th fairway on Red with a hand mower. I'm guessing they want to be gentle on the new turf.

Hit 'em well Jemehl

Thanks for the replies guys. I live like 10 minutes away so I want to play there more often because all 5 of the courses are so well maintained. I am correct in saying that the black is the most difficult, followed by red, then green, then blue, and finally yellow? Also, could a player of my handicap play red? I felt like green was a relatively easy course with wide fairways and not so so long.

As far as toughness goes I rate them this way
Black--no brainer

Blue-Front nine is a bear the back is a littleeasier

Red-The best looking course and still a decent test

Green-Not overly hard and sketchy in conditioning due to organic fertilizers

Yellow-Mostly great shape just wide open and not overly long.

Take the front nine of the Blue and mate it with the back side of the Black and you would have a real bear of a course.

Couldn't have said that better myself. The 6th hole on Blue is a hole I love to hate. The front nine is a little more forgiving. 15th on the back of Black destroys me.

iPutt, I'd say play the Red. It's good to mix it up. Don't worry too much about the score, play for the sake of playing.

I played the Red yesterday and looked at the Black on a few holes and noticed they cut down all the heather! If you play it now chances are you can play the whole round with one ball. Can not for the life of me figure wht they would mow the heather but between 1&17 it is gone and on both sides of 15&16 it is all gone and short of 17 is flat.It allmost looks like it caught a disease or something but one of the workers that were laying sod on the 5th tee box of the Red told me they just mowed it down no reason.

when i went to the u.s. open, the putting green was 50 yards behind the first tee for the black course. The driving range was pretty far away on the left side of the club house, near the giant concessions tent.

I also live about ten minutes away!

Blue is definitely harder than green and possibly as hard as red. The first two holes of blue are ridiculously long.

After labor day when all the teachers go back to work it will be easy to get tee times during the week on all the courses.By the way I was told the Red will be back to normal the week after Labor day.

I have to say I never realized how lucky I am to live so close to a world class course. I mean it's cheap compared to so many other "greats". Plus, as a NYS resident, I can make reservations whenever I want. Just think about how many people camp out all night just to play the black. Hell, I walked in the first time to register in the system on my tuesday off and if I wanted to, I could have walked onto the black at 2ish. Not to mention all the other openings on the other A+ courses. I love New York hahaha.
