Got rear ended in my car about 1.5 weeks ago. Sitting at work right now with maybe 30 degrees of rotation in my back and in pain just sitting.

Guess I'm looking forward to next spring unless this clears up soon :(

Anyone else on the IR?

Bummer. Sympathies from all of us .....

For some reason my back has been stiffening up lately (no obvious explanation other than maybe bad sitting position at work), which is saying something because it's been a long time since I've been, well, anything like loose. How does one loosen a stiff lower back I wonder?

You probly have muscle knots in your bck from playing alot of golf. I have this and once a week or so go to physical therapy. I would reccomend going to your doctor, or at least streching and warming up before the first tee. Also, if you back stiffens up or gets sore while playing you should stop.

Man... sorry to hear about your bad back. Hope you are just sore from the wreck. I've disided that todays round is my last for a while. I've got some issues that are killing my game and it's become no fun to play. Hopefully next spring I'll be fixed and ready to play.

I just tried to play a round today and was in EXCRUCIATING pain in my left middle back. It feels extremely tight and it has been since saturday when I played. I figured taking a break would have helped but apparently it wasn't long enough. I just started to play all the time, being out for the season would crush me but it looks like thats where I'm headed

I could even take a backswing without cringing in pain today.

Oh and one way of loosening it up is getting an Rx for muscle relaxers. I'll have to grab some flexeril tomorrow and see how they treat me but this sucks...

Take this from someone who just spent the last five months on the shelf. If you have pain in your back, STOP PLAYING.

I'm serious. Don't mask the pain with pain killers or just "try to play through it" like I did. It caused an injury that ended my entire summer. I just played my first nine holes yesterday, my back is sore, but feels uninjured, which is great.

Seriously, you simply have to bite the bullet when you have an injury and just let it heal. If the pain persists, get an MRI. That will reveal your problem nine times out of ten. I had herniated discs in the thorasic region of my spine, and this was caused by simply continuing to play injured despite my injury being relatively minor when it first occurred in early May of this year.

You don't want your injury to turn into some epic thing like I had. And if it still hurts to play golf even after you have taken time off, consult a doctor and get that MRI. Then the real healing can begin.

And really, stay away from those pain killers. They did nothing for me. I had to heal the old fashioned way.

Good luck to all those with injuries on these boards because I definitely know how frustrating it is. Please do what I did not do and just stop playing for a while. There's a lot of healing that can be done by just getting a bunch of good night's sleep in a row and not putting that extra stress on your back that golf puts on it.

After I had healed, instead of going right back to golf, I did a few weeks of light jogging and light weight lifting (chest, arms, crunches) that I think really strengthened my back. It's still a pretty long road until I'm 100% again, but I can definitely see light at the end of the tunnel now.

Wow sorry to hear about your injury. I've recently started playing golf and I've been really sore in my upper left arm. I'm assuming it's just because I'm developing muscles I've never used before, but it's really frustrating since I can only practice once every 2 or 3 days because of the soreness. Hopefully it's just muscle soreness that will go away with time and I'm not injuring my arm every time I play.

Schapman,

Had the same thing happen in June 2006. I had gone out on a Sunday, played nine holes, shot 4-over and thought I was ready for a hot season. I had back-to-back birdies even!

Two days later, I got rear-ended going in to work. About a week later, the pain set in, and I missed the entire season. It was just bad enough the chiropractor said "no golf."

Generally, the pain starts about a week to 10 days after impact.

For others with back pain, make sure you don't have any swing quirks which hurt your back. For exercise tips, just look around our various ST blogs. Everyone is thinking healthy all the sudden.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Back at the doctors again today after my back getting worse. I have around 25% of my normal rotation in my back.

Massage therapy and anti inflammitories are on the schedule for now. As well as no golf, no weights, no mountain biking. Guess I'll be getting some reading done :)

Anti-Inflammatories helped me. It's the vicodins and codines of the world that I recommended staying away from. It sounds like you're on the right path towards getting back to normal though. Good luck!

I've just eased back into hitting after a few weeks off from a rhomboid-ish area injury. Was pretty agonizing for a while, and I'm still not quite back to form -- hit a few in the bay at GG today and very quickly decided to cancel my plans to go play nine that afternoon. Better... not healed, though.

Currently in my bag:  Under Revision
