FINALLY made my decision on an iron set! Just a shaft question now!

So I went over to Edwin watts and they let me demo a set of MP57's.. They charged me full price but said I can bring em back in a week for a full refund so I can take em out a few times.

I went and played 18 with them today using only my irons, wedges and putter. I think I played the best golf of my life today! I cant believe how soft and accurate these irons are!

The first few holes I sent everything off to the right, because of the less offset and my swing being used to a lot of offset. After about 4 holes, I got my draw back, but it wasnt as pronounced as before. Just one pretty draw.

I tried playing high shots, knockdown shots, fades, high fades, and I was able to pull all of them off! I couldn't freaking believe it!

Anyways, I am definitely going with the 57's, I am ABSOLUTELY in love with these irons!

Im not gonna keep these demo's though because for 450, they are a little too worn for me. I can get a beautiful set on ebay for less than that which are barely used.

So my question is on shafts. I hit the Project X 6.0 very nicely today, I liked the ball flight, etc.... How would the DG S300 compare to this shaft?

I dont have a chance to demo the s300 because watts only has px 6.0 in stock.

So what would the difference be?

Thanks a ton for all your help everyone, I now see why everyone raves about Mizuno! They feel so awesome!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I like my 57's r300 but... i think the s300 would have suited my swing speed better. But for $340 bucks through a friend anything was better than my old firesole blades.
hey... first post yeah!

I play the S300s and really like them. I was told they have a lower ballflight than the PXs. Great choice on the irons BTW.

I saw on their site that the regular DG s300 shafts have a low ball flight. Does that mean like low like bullets? Or is there some kind of trajectory.

Also the px's are lighter, but not by much, does 5-8 grams really matter?

I dont have a chance to hit an s300 so Im kind of in the dark here....

Can you guys explain the differences?

Thanks for the posts so far!

If you hit the PX's good, liked the ball flight and distance then I don't know if I would change.

I have a set of 57's with DG R300 and a set of AP2's with PX's 5.5. I like the PX's better because they are lighter and the ball fly's higher and further for me.

If you hit the ball high to start, you might not like the PX's. I'd take your time hitting both shafts so you aren't disappointed in what you end up getting.

The Dynamic Gold shaft produces a slightly lower trajectory than the PX 6.0 as it's slightly heavier. I'm playing the Project X 5.5 in my AP2s because the DG S300 gave too low of a ball flight.

I tend to hit the ball high anyways, so the lower flight was what I was looking for. Its none too low. At times I wish it was lower even. YMMV

If you liked the ones you played with I would get them. They are similar shafts. I can not confirm if they are lower. I have the s300s in my irons and I think the flight is good. I hit my PW 125, 8 I 145, 5 I 175 For reference. That is a good shot.

I believe the 6.0 are a bit stiffer. than the S300s.

Also, if you are paying retail go to a Certified Mizuno Club fitter and get them custom built.

Thats the thing, Im not paying retail... Gonna buy on ebay...

Im gonna call around and hit a few more shafts if possible, I'll find the one I like! I got kind of addicted to that PX ball flight, just dont know if 6 or 5.5 is better... Hope I can get to a range and compare the s300's to the px's.

Thanks for the responses guys!

Can't really tell you much about the S300 as I don't have much experience with them. Can tell you that for my game the PX has done wonders, love everything about the shaft, silky smooth in every way, which in turn has forced me to swing smooth and let the club do the work.
Go ahead and hit them at the range and then go on a launch monitor to compare data. It is good to be reassured by data that what you felt and saw was correct. Remember that irons are your scoring tools, accuracy is essential so be very conscious of shot dispersion.

Thats an awesome demo policy that they have. You can take the clubs out for a demo once you pay full price for them.... Sounds like you bought them.

All joking aside, the 57's are nice sticks. I've had my eye on them for some time now.......good choice

with th s300

the long irons definitely have a slightly lower flight but it is very piercing 7-pw still flies high though

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
