Im about 6,2 200 pds and have about 105-110 clubhead speed, and i have the new G15 driver with the serreno shaft that comes with it which is 60 grams! it feels like a feather. My 3 wood has a fujikura 65 gram shaft and it feels so much smoother through my swing and i assume my driver should be atleast that or even 70 grams? What is everyones opinion on this? i know i need a heavier shaft, because im just spraying my tee shots everywhere.... the club feels like theres nothing there in my backswing. thanks alot

If you like the Fuji so much, go with it in your driver as well. FWIW, I've got 3 grams difference in the shaft of my driver vs. that of my 3W, and both feel perfect. If the 3W shaft feels that good to you, I wouldnt deviate too far from the weight of it. Maybe 5 grams difference at the most.

Maybe try adding lead tape to the head to adjust swing weight?

I would really like to know what exactly adding more weight to the shaft does. in detail...

I'm not so sure buying a shaft because it looks "bad ass" is going to solve your driver issues. LOL

I would go to a fitter and get what works.

Adding weight to your shaft will make the club feel heavier and will decrease swing speed a touch.

I am going to reshaft my driver this winter with a 75 gram UST proforce stiff. I want more control and consistancy.

why do you think the shaft comes stock 60 grams? is 70-75 grams considered a "heavy" weight?

It will definitely be noticeable. I have the 65 R flex right now. I love UST shafts and think the stiff with a little weight will help me be able to swing more consistantly.

I would just go to a golf club place (not a big box store but a smaller place with a launch monitor) and let them help you. Maybe look up a fitter in the area and see him. The only reason I am not doing that is I am building a little workshop so I want to do it myself.

From my personal experience, heavier shafts will also help bring the ball flight down a bit. Most players need to get the ball higher to hit it farther, hence most stock shafts coming in the 60-65gram range. I have a TM Tour Burner and I swing about 105. The stock stiff shaft would cause the ball to balloon if I really went after it. So I went to Golf Galaxy and worked on the launch monitor (not the simulator... BIG difference in accuracy) Best $30 I've ever spent. It showed launch angle, ball speed, head speed, spin, carry distance, roll distance and even made shoe string french fries!! When all was said and done, we went with a heavier shaft to get the ball down and then just matched the flex to my swing speed. Im killing the ball off the tee now and if Im swinging well, I can really go after it (115 seems to be my max) and not spray it. Hope this helps.

Thanks that makes since. Do you feel more stable throughout your swing? my 60 gram shafts just feels like theres no head on the club and im just swinging a little stick. so coming through my swing the tiniest little swing error screws up the whole thing and i cant swing it consistanly because its so light and whippy.

If both the shafts you are talking about are factory OEM shafts, you prob want to ditch both and get a custom shaft. OEM shafts tend to have higher torque ratings (to accommodate the masses) and being a 'better' you need something that fits 'you better. I agree with above, go get fitted..Get a shaft that fits your swing...

I definately feel more stable.... with the stock shaft in my driver I also had that "whippy" feeling. With the right fit shaft, I don't get that any more at all. I'm sure you'll get the results you're looking for in a properly fitted shaft.

Hey - just from what i've heard:

If you can't "feel" the club you actually need a lighter shaft, not a heavier one. The lighter the shaft, the heavier the club head feels and the more you should be able to feel the club head throughout your swing. The heavier the shaft, the lighter your club head is going to feel: this makes it easier to work the ball since you can alter the swing path more easily - this is why they generally say the more skilled you are, the heavier the shaft. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Hey - just from what i've heard:

I believe that Swing weight has the most effect of the 'feel' of the driver head. You can have a 60g gram shaft that is weighted more towards the hands which would cause the feeling of no 'club head'. If another 60 gram shaft was weighted towards the Club head, you would get the feeling of a heavy club head. Partially, I think we both just described how swing weight is figured

Hey - just from what i've heard:

i believe your a little confused... the club just feels like nothing. its just whippy and all over the place. all that putting a lighter shaft in would do is make the club that much lighter and whippy?? and who uses a 55 gram shaft besides women? not many. i need more weight, as i said with my 3 wood being more stable

    • The fact that he has a building that has one opening that hits out into a driving range, and the opposite wall has a golf simulator.  The fact that weather will not play a part in my lessons.  Every shot you take using either one is recorded and sent to you by email.  I saw him just over a year ago for the first time, and it has gone downhill ever since.  These weren't great results then, but it was my first lesson.  Hitting a 7 iron then and this is total distance.  Thoughts?
    • I was pondering a repeatable golf swing beings I am a beginner, and a lot of things have presented themselves in bad ways.  I am mainly speaking irons here.  The thing about golf is the ball is still, but the golfer is also standing over the ball.  Are we saying that each time I hit the ball, my spine angle, lead arm, trail arm, wrists, etc. have to be just about exact to have a repeatable golf swing?  This is already a "funky" position to be in, and a "funky" move to make.  The golf swing is more of a body swing (in my mind).  The ball is small and the sweet spot is small.  I just feel defeated in the fact that I need to bend over the ball the same way every time, same knee bend, same swing arc, and hit a small ball with a small sweet spot.  When I watch club fittings on YouTube, these guys are swinging about the same speed within 1 mph or so. Their Trackman numbers are pretty identical even in 10-20 swings.  I am just trying to make sure that this is the main summary of what needs to be done.  As a beginner, how did you all think through the process to make the swing repeatable?  Much appreciated.
    • I kind of figured that might be part of the problem. I’m still guilty of it myself at times and you’re a better ballstriker than I am. I imagine the temptation to go for the flag grows as you get more control over your wedges. Might want to think about shot selection, too. I don’t know how you typically play short game shots but I see a lot of people default to hitting high pitch shots from basically everywhere, to every hole location, without regard for how the green is contoured and how the ball might release depending on where it lands. I know my short game has been steadily improving from expanding my shot selection, overall. Though to be honest, part of that is from necessity because I was really struggling with pitch shots so I started hitting more chips from everywhere, but it taught me a lot more about how to play short game shots in general. NP man. We’re all learning and improving together. It is a really good tool.
