I'm traveling to Pomona 11/12-11/15, and I'd like to play a round or 2 that Thurs or Fri. Any suggestions?

Empire Lakes is not too far from there. It's an Arnold Palmer designed links course that used to host an event on the Nationwide Tour. Kevin Na won this on his way back from injury. Beautiful course, and there are some websites where you can get a good discount.

Right in Pomona is Royal Oaks Golf Course and down the street is Diamond Bar Golf Course. I haven't played Royal Oaks since my high school days. My son and I played Diamond Bar two weekends ago. Not too bad of a course. The only downside is, it is right next to the freeway so one some holes it is too loud. If you go further down the freeway there is Industry Hills Golf Course. Very challenging. The PGA used to do some tournaments there about 20 years ago. For nostalgia, it is where they filmed Rodney Dangerfields' movie "Back to School" and has been on "Unsolved Mysteries."

For the price, Diamond Bar is the best way to go.

As a side note, when you go don't stay in Pomona, it is a very bad neighborhood. Lots of gangs and violence. Any other city around there is safe

Thanks for the heads up. I'm not quite sure where I'll be staying just yet. I will undoubtedly be a Sheraton or Hilton like hotel, as we are scheduled for a series of meetings on Friday, then I'm attending the NHRA race on Sat/Sun.

Palm Springs is only an hour east of Pomona and we have plenty of great courses to choose from AND the weather is usually perfect in November here (average high of 78F).

If you want to play closer to the Ontario Airport then I'd recommend Oak Quarry in Riverside... very unique course with spectacular scenery built out of an old quarry and the greens fees are reasonable.

I've also played Empire Lakes (Shindigs recommendation) and I enjoyed it too...solid course at a good price.

There is a very nice and reasonably priced muni in Arcadia called Santa Anita. I played it this spring and can recommend it. Great walking course.

I live down the street from Santa Anita, and can say that this course is very different in the fall than it is in the spring. Right now, it is pretty dried out with many brown/dirt areas. During the week it is $25 to walk and an extra ~$15 to ride (dont know exactly cause I never ride). Plus, it is very crowded, need a tee time otherwise before 10AM it is at least a 1 hr. wait.

Where DO people find good reviews of golf courses?

www.greenskeeper.org is THE place to find reviews of California and Arizona golf courses. They also do a great job with alerts when courses aerate greens or close for reseeding.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
