your looking real good there. keep your knees real quiet on the back swing but more
importantly keep them parallel to the target on the down swing until after impact..
keeping them parallel to the target will help you properly shift your weight forward.
it will also keep your shots more consistent. swing plane looks very good,a teenie bit
over the top with the 7 iron, driver appears to be right on.

That swing looks pretty good man, I think you should work on some tempo though.... Seems a bit quick which can cause all kinds of irregularities in the swing...

That swings got a lot of promise though!

swing looks good. maybe the tempo is a little quick but many good players have this tempo. i would slow it down a little. you also swing inside-inside. this is very common. this is very difficult to time and hit the ball consistently. if you want to hit a draw, swing inside-out, to fade, outside-in. i would recommend using one or the other and swing this way consistently. good looking swing though.

What range is that? Is that near Camarillo?

It is in Moorpark. Tom Barber. I enjoy going there because they just installed automated tees and use 100% new range balls. Monday night special is buy 2 buckets get 1 free. They give you 2 tokens per bucket, which you can use any day of the week, just have to buy them on Monday. When I was practicing a lot, I would get 3 buckets every Monday, and hit 150 balls twice during the week. Now I hit 50-100 balls, as I feel my full swing is fairly grooved in and it's the short shots that KILL my score... roughly 35-40 putts per round... ugh. Video of my putting and chipping strokes will be next. Going to a group lesson tomorrow night...

I have been battling my tempo lately. I have been trying to force myself to do a 1-2-3 count backswing with a 1 count downswing. But I am just so anxious to get all over the ball and send it out I slip up. You would think while taking this vid I would force myself to do that but video doesn't lie, and that is how I swing when I'm on the range.

Last time I was on the course I forced myself to take a slow backswing and had the best driving game and wood game of my life. I don't know if I am good enough to swing that fast, but you are right, there are many good golfers who do. I grew up playing hockey, and my muscles tell me that the longer my stick is away from the ball, the more likely someone is gonna come up and take it!!

As for the inside-inside, I think you are right and I didn't realize I was doing that, and that might account for my slice that I sometimes get with my long irons and my driver. Don't get a slice with my woods though, which is strange, but I suppose my woods are just more forgiving to this swing style and I hate that, I would rather address the problem with my swing not with my equipment. I have been so focused on coming in from the inside I think I forgot that I need to end up outside. Thanks for this, I will work on it.

Congrats, you do some things well that are hard to teach. If your miss is a pulled shot (or it starts left of the target), you may want to add some spine tilt at address.

At address move your hips slightly towards the target. This will create the tilt necessary to give you more room to approach the ball from the inside. Remember to keep your head still.

Good luck,

Beane

OK so I just got back from the range, and now, as you called it, I am getting a NASTY pull. Only hit about 25 balls with my short irons and I could not work it out in time and I did not get more balls because I don't want to make this a habit. I did notice that I was swinging inside-inside, and when I forced myself to go inside-outside, I had a pretty good distance loss, but the ball went dead on straight with my alignment shaft for 3/4 shots. Once I made this realization I just about ran out of balls...

What started the push I believe is my stance change. I have recently changed from both feet perpendicular to the target line, to back foot perpendicular and front foot a "quarter turn open" as Ben Hogan calls it (aka 22.5*). I was getting a lot of pushing yesterday when I made the video, but not EVERY shot like I had today. Another change I have made lately is I have stopped crouching over the ball. I put my butt down about 2" (use to drop about 4"...) and then I let my upper body and my hands drop to the ball while keeping my arms tight together in order to get a little bit more reach. I was doing these exact things in my videos above, but for some reason I wasn't having a huge problem with it last night. Is this a sort of "you're going to get worse before you get better" sort of things? Does anyone see any problem with the stance and posture I just described? I am going to continue positioning my feet with the front open, and I am going to continue reading Ben's book. I just finished the stance chapter. Maybe I need to read the whole book before I go to the range again...

One of the hardest things to incorporate into a swing when one is focused on positions and technique is to not slow down through impact. One of the best tools I've seen to help learn how to power through the impact postion is the golf club fan -- a golf shaft and grip with fan blades on the end (where the clubhead would be) so you have to keep turning and driving the body to keep the power on. The Fan thing keeps you from releasing early and losing the body's mechanical advantage to swing through the ball. Using the fan also helps one feel what lag is all about.

I have nothing to do with anyone or any business that sells these things, but they are pretty good training tools. When you can really "swoosh" a Fan club so it makes a high pitch sound, you will be mechanically in a stronger position through impact.

I have been meaning to pick up one of those fans. I need to get on that. I used one at a golf course a while ago that had one on the first tee for you to warm up with before starting your round while waiting for the group in front of you to take their approach shots. I really enjoyed swinging that thing.

There are so many gadgets and aids in golf, but I think the club fan is one of the very best swing aids one can use. Because of the resistance, most people will almost automatically start swinging with better form using one. I like weighted clubs as well, but the swing fan is still my favorite gadget, great for warming up, for swinging around in the backyard, and if you are careful and have the space (ceiling height, no ceiling fan or chandelier above you, etc.) you can even practice in-doors on those otherwise miserable days.

Ahh I never thought of the indoor possibilities. Yea, vaulted ceilings, I am good to go.
