I dont think the question should be "how hard is it" I mean its kind of self explained, how good are you, ya know. Can you go out and shoot low almost every round. You have to think of the fees vs winning ratio, can you win more money than you loose, if not then keep practicing lol.

Tough. I know some very good golfers who played D1 in college and couldn't make it on the Hooters Tour.

They come to a course near me each year and I've played this course twice this year. Shot 74 both times. The cut line for the Hooters Tour tournament there was -4 and the winner was around -16 if I'm not mistaken.

ya i have seen a lot of really good golf on there and i have seen a lot of people on there shooting in the 80's and i think why bother spending money not to make any money. butt i was just curious my uncle used to play on it for a while and he made okay money and he was scrath very consistent. but he did it only as fun whenever tournaments were by him in georgia and SC

Yeah I've thought the same about some of the scores I've seen. If you're going out and shooting low 80's each time, I think it's time to think about a new profession. Of course, it could be that those guys simply had a bad round or something that day? Who knows?

I checked into playing in it this year and it's $100 to Monday qualify. I got excited thinking that it's $45 normally to play this course, so what's another $55 with the potential to win some cash if I play well? That's when they told me IF you qualify, you have to pay another $1000 to play in the tournament. haha. Would still love to play but I'm afraid for a grand, my wife would kill me.

you are looking at the wrong numbers. Look at what makes the cuts and what wins. If you can't play good enough to make the -2 cut, then you are wasting your money. Winners usually shoot -16 or better, I figure. If you shoot 71 every time you play, then you might make a few cuts, but don't count on it.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

save your money, practice your ass off then go to q school.

keep in mind for every four of five times you play an event on the hooters tour thats a q school fee

there are plenty of people that money has no bearing on what they choose to do. The guys who shoot 80 in a Hooter's event have no sense and think someday it will just all click. Aparently the money is not an issue for them, but they are dreaming. I only shot three rounds this entire year above 74 and I wouldn't even consider the hooter's Tour.

Q School is quite a bit more than that if I'm reading it correctly:

http://i.cdn.turner.com/pgatour/docs...pplication.pdf Pre Qualifying just to get into the the first stage of Q School is $2,500. First stage is $4,500; Second stage is $4,000; and Third stage is $3,500. So, assuming you make it to the final stage, you're out minimum $14,500.

Sounds about like my year and like you, I have no thoughts of trying to play on a professional tour. Now... if I can get my bad scores to around even par and my good ones in the 60's, maybe.

that is incorrect. you only pay one fee it just depends on what stage you are exempt to. i called the pga and asked about this. ( yes im still young enough to have dreams) if you have to go to q school pre qual its something like 2500 if you pass you the have to pay an additional 2500 for the rest of the tournament.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't see any mention on the document as to how the fees worked so I simply assumed you must pay at each stage. Good thing, that would get expensive.

The Hooters Tour is a great place to gauge your game. In order to truely understand their averages, you would need to put yourself into the situation of really playing. Looking at their website, there might be a semi-inexpensive way to determine this. The tour does have monday qualifiers, depending on the number of spots allocated, you might have to shoot in the 60's to just get into the tournament.

The Frys.com pga event had a pre-qualifier, top 50 played into the monday qualifier. 75's or better. On Monday, only the top 4 would make it to the tour event, top score was a 66, and there was playoff with 68's.

I'd say got for it, you'll never know unless you try.

to give you an idea I'm 24 and married. Alot of things got put on hold when i joined the marines. Im going to be playing golf for becker college (D3). but it will enable me to practice every day. when i can shoot a consistent 68 i will start weighing my options.

I think they require documented tournament experience prior to accepting your application to Q-school. At least what I read in "Paper Tiger"..........

If your on the West Coast, the "Pepsi Tour" looks like a excellent place to start as far as testing your game and not spending a ton of cash doing it. Last time I looked it was around $200 to get a membership and in the Pro Division they pay $125 per tournament. Of course the purses are going to be lower but if your succesful on a tour like that you may stand a chance on the Hooters Tour. The Hooters Tour entry fees are a lot more cash.

There are also quite a few mini-tours in your area if your in Florida! I would look around and try some smaller tours before you jump in. If you've already been playing the mini-tours and have had good success then go for it on the Hooters Tour!

I wish they had a Pepsi Tour in NY, I would definitely play 3-4 tournaments a year.

Good Luck!

no they dont.... or at least they do not state it on the app. i would assume that most people entering this would have some type of experience in either college or a mini tour or tournaments.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
