Anyone have one of these in their driver?

This summer I've bought a Cleveland Launcher Comp and didn't like the shaft in it so Friday I get it back with a Grafalloy Prototype Comp NT (nano technology) shaft in it. In the meantime I bought and have been using a Ping G5 with ProLaunch and have been doing very well with it.

Now I've found a deal on a almost new Tour Edge Exotics and am putting a new Accuflex Evolution LT (nano technology) shaft in it. All drivers are 10.5 loft and all shafts are stiff except for the ProLaunch in the G5.

Anyone have any experience with the Accuflex shafts?

I have a smooth swing (don't load the shaft quickly) at about 100 mph. The two nano shafts above had a range of 95-105 mph for the stiff flex Comp NT and 91-105 mph for the stiff flex Evo LT. Most are 100-110 mph for stiff and 90-100 mph for regular.

So, what do you think? Good choice? Stupid move?

warbirdlover,

I am a very big fan of Accuflex products. They are a great company, and produce products on par with the highest end shaft makers for incredibly modest prices. Simply superb performance.

The Evolution lite is a great shaft. It's far less demanding than it's big brother, and relatively it has a stiffer butt and softer mid section and tip. Not to mention its paint scheme is beautiful.

Be very careful with the installation of the Evolution Lite. It has a 4 inch parallel tip section which is meant for long bore through clubs like the Titleist "super bore" and Callaway. The Tour Edge club has a very shallow bore, so the Evolution Lite should be tipped roughly 1.5" to play true to flex.

On the other hand, I've never seen you swing, so you may want it to play a little softer to flex depending on your swing and transition. If you're a smooth swinger and have a bit of an early release, I'd install untipped. If you have a quicker tempo, and a later release, I'd tip it at least 1.5."

The Grafalloy Comp NT is a fairly different shaft. It's a prolaunch with a stiffer tip. It lacks the smoothness of the Evolution Lite which may or may not be a good thing in terms of feel. It's a bit stiffer overall than the Evolution and should produce a lower ball flight. Again, it has a four inch parallel tip section, so be careful with the installation. It's probably a better idea to leave the Comp NT untipped since it's a bit stiffer in the tip.

That's a lot of information, let me know if you need anything straightened out.

According to my Ping pro I have a nice swing. It's a smooth swing and I don't load the shaft very quickly (100mph swing speed approx.). Distance usually 250-260 with a couple per round up to 280. Once in a great while hit 300 or more.

I think I'm leaving the tip alone. Right?

(Thought the Comp NT was closer to the Blue then the ProLaunch)

Carry yardage is usually preferred over total distance. If you're getting 30 yards of roll, those numbers change dramatically. With 100 MPH swing speed, 250 is about the farthest you'd ever carry the ball (and more likely something around 240).

warbirdlover,

Yes, I'd leave the tip alone on both shafts. You might want to tip the Evolution Lite a half inch, but you can always do that later. Not surprised at all about the comparison between the Comp NT and the Blue, since the Blue is essentially a prolaunch with a stiffer tip.

warbirdlover,

Trust me, if manufacturers had their way, tip trimming would be non extistant. Ninety percent of customer service calls have to do with tip trimming. The 0" is just a quick way that they can point to and not deal with the repercussions. Tons of amateurs wreck perfectly good shafts by tip trimming. However, you will not. With a 4" parallel tip section and a shallow bore, you need some tip trimming in most cases to get it to play true to flex. I've talked with Jody Baucom, president of Accuflex, extensively about their products. My information comes from real life application and installation, not a chart.

The CompNT is a great shaft in my opinion, I've had it in a driver and now currently in my 3-wood. I guess I'd say it's a little closer the the blue because of the tip section but it's really designed to play in between the Blue and Prolaunch, which I think it does a great job of.

You can't go wrong with AccuFLEX either, I'd say the Evolution Lite is a better bet based on your swing. I'd say leave the tip timming alone for now but like Gas Can says, you can always adjust it later.

You rarely even make up on the ground what you lose in the air. So go for more carry.

Everado,

How come you took the Comp NT out of your driver?

Jody (of Accuflex) just told me the shaft was designed to not need tip trimming, even in the TE Exotics. Straight from the horses mouth!!

Iacas,
I don't get too caught up in numbers. When I say 250-260 that is my drive not the carry. I've hit one 326 (366 yard hole and had 40 yards to pin after drive) and don't know how I did it. It was my same swing, not harder or faster. And I hit one or 2 every round out to 280. All are straight down the middle. Rarely miss the fairway unless I line up wrong. The ball you're hitting also makes a huge difference. I am now hitting the HX Tour for this reason.

How come you took the Comp NT out of your driver?

I made the mistake of letting a customer use it while I was fitting him. He fell in love with it, I said great I'll make you one just like it, he said no I want this exact one!.......so I sold him that one and will build myself another one.

I got my Launcher back with the Comp NT (stiff) in it. It's all wrong for me. Hit 2 nice straight long drives with it today and the rest were hooks or low slices. Very touchy. Those swings would have all been straight down the middle with my Ping.

Tell me the Accuflex Evolution Lite is way different then the Comp NT. Please!!
