New Project X Graphite Specs

Thread Starter
anyone know them or where to find them?
I am considering buying a new VR Tour Driver but want to knwo the specs of these new shafts

not sure which shaft to be choosing, as I cant hit them here (limited quanitities)
I hit a 5.5 and this was waaaay to flimsy for me
has me thinking, is 6.0 even enough

I have a smooth tempoed swing w an average of 103mph (measured again today)
I expect to pick up a few mph as i havent swung much all winter

I am thinkning 6.5, BUT i want to know the specs on this driver...such as torque, kickpoint and launch
the website is kinda vague

thanks for your help

Re: New Project X Graphite Specs

i agree their website is terrible.

I don't know which version comes in the VR tour but generally they are pretty low torque with a high kickpoint and a low launch. Titleist shows the 7B2 at a 3.0 torque rating. I don't have any other exact numbers but it's maybe one of the lowest spinning shafts out there. I bought a Nike 3 wood with the 8A3 shaft in 7.0 flex and it was very stiff and my SS is 115ish on average. I had to go really hard at it to get the ball to turn over, I sold the 3 wood because swinging really hard at a 3 wood does me no good and I need to keep that thing as straight as possible. I would expect that you are right on the borderline of 6.0/6.5 and it would depend on how you want the shaft to feel. If you like to feel the shaft kick a little bit go with 6.0 and if you like a stiffer feeling shaft go with 6.5. I think 5.5 would be R flex, 6.0 is S and 6.5 would be X.

I would like to know how it performs in the driver in a lighter weight because I think it would actually be a good shaft for me if I could find the right weight and stiffness.

I am essentially looking for a low spinning, high KP, low torque shaft - very similar to the one I play now
I fight a high launch angle w the driver and this shaft helps keep it low
according to the PJX website, this shaft should do this......

I think you are right w the boarder of 6.0/6.5....i sure wish i could test them, but i can't
I like to swing my driver......if i have to go at it a little, this is better for me
i might not have a 110+ SS like you, but i still like to swing at it!! haha!

and if i am pying $250+ for this driver, I dont want to be in another $100 for a shaft
the current shaft I have wont work in the VR as, the 907 is a bore through design

also considering the 909D3...w the stock voodoo shaft (it alsmost the exact specs of my GD Aura RED) i was recordning liker 9.6-9.8 launch angle and had a good amount of roll - more than now
this is what I like to see

Re: New Project X Graphite Specs

found this on the WRX site

7B3-6.5 PJX, Weight-76gms, Stiff
6B7-6.5 PJX, Weight-69gms, Stiff

they dont rate an x-stiff until the 8A4 PJX 7.0

The "stiff" there is only referring to the tip stiffness of that particular shaft. So don't get confused there and order the wrong thing. The 7.0 8A3 I had only said "stiff" on it and it was the stiffest shaft I've ever hit. I think in theory the 5.5/6.0/6.5 rating are supposed to matcy their iron profiles.

BTW - I'm not a fitting expert but I'm pretty sure a 9.6-9.9 launch angle is low. You may want to try that driver in a higher loft so you can optimize distance.

If I were you I'd try and call Project X and see if you can get some help there or just maybe call an club fitting place that sells the Project X Graphite and see if you can pick their brain.

thats the crappy thing about where i live
the "locals" at Golf Town arent exactly the most knowledgeable dudes.........

there is no "contact us" on the PJX site either
I found a pretty good spec sheet as well from WRX, but cant post it for some reason
I THINK the new VR tour's come stock w the 6B7-6.5 Stiff......seems to fit right

Re: New Project X Graphite Specs

I have the same problem here, I'll usually find an online club fitter that sells premium shafts and email or call them when I need info.

Good luck with your driver search.

Re: New Project X Graphite Specs

The 5.5 I would say you would class as "firm". The graphite numbers are pretty indicative of the steel iron no's. I tried the Vr with a 6 PX, my ss is 111 give or take and it was maybe even a little soft, it seemed to balloon sometmes. I would think the 6 should be about perfect for your ss. I'm not sure about kickpoints etc it doesn't say anything on the shaft, its just the same as the iron except its blue!

Re: New Project X Graphite Specs

6.5 is X flex
6.0 is a little stiffer than a normal stiff flex would be
5.5 is closer to stiff than regular

I think thi sis about right. I hit the VR with Project X 6.5 and it seemd just right, similar to the voodoo X I ended up going with.
