Ads are served by Google. Google serves ads based on what you have been reading and posting on the site. For example, I just clicked over here from the counterfeit Mizuno thread and am getting a link for Brandwatch Technologies, unique brand security. Google is happy to make money on both sides of this particular coin!

Been learning about web advertising recently, as that's the business of one of my golf partners...he's a "web advertising broker"...didn't know that existed. Iacas can correct, but in all likelihood this site is not DIRECTLY solicited for ads by many companies (except perhaps the fixed rangefinder ad at the top of the title page). As mentioned above, what ads you see on any web page is based on some complex formula including the content of that page, what terms you've searched for and what cookies are your system, and also geographic info about your IP address (i.e. that's why you may see adds specific to your city/region) .

I.e. there have been several recent posts about counterfeit clubs or you may have searched about them, and voila, you see ads that way. If we all started posting about porn i wouldn't be surprised to see those ads instead showing up...(so please don't try this, as i like to read this forum in mixed company!)

Pretty much yes to all of that.

Guys, if you see an ad that's counterfeit, PM me with the URL so I can add it to the list of sites from which we will NOT accept advertising via Google.

Doesn't that supress the banner ads you see on sites (including this one)?

Banner ads are what support web sites. When you block those ads you are literally taking money away from the site you are visiting (including this site). Personally, I think it's a fair trade. Visit a site or forum (like this one) and have some advertising appear on the page. I don't think it's fair to expect everything to be provided for free. People that run web sites have to reimbursed somehow, for a lot of sites that means including advertisments on the page.

No thank you. You might win, but you end up screwing me and the other writers and, in the end, yourself. The hosting fees for this site are high enough already - ads help offset the costs. We do not have a LOT of advertising. If you value this forum and the other sites on the Web from which you get content, please disable and/or turn off your ad blocking things.

Indeed. Again, we don't have a lot of ads on the site and they're very much off to the side and out of the way.

Now if we can stick to the topic please... thanks.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
    • No. But if I can still play next year, I'll almost certainly be even worse. That's the reality of not being young.🙁
