Here is the story, I started going to a teacher last year to help me get as close to scratch from a -4 as I could. I was well on my way, incorporating his swing changes rather quickly, practicing every day at the range, swinging in front of the mirror at home, playing every weekend,etc.....and I proceeded to get a little burnt out. So I have been taking some time off. Not I am starting to fire it back up and want to get back to my goals and really improve by next year so I can get back into the tournaments.

Well, the few times I have played this year there seems to be something wrong. I can't hit my driver (with the exception of 1 round) in the fairway at all! I used a friend's Iphone yesterday to video my swing. He has an editing software on there that was good enough to show me what I was doing. It was not pretty!!! I have fallen back into my original swing problems. At the top, I am way past parallel and way too flat. This in turn causes me to be in a bind at impact which results in my scooping and coming up on my toes. It was good that I found out what I was doing, but really frustrated me because I spent so much time getting rid of these changes. I really, really, really need to get back to my teacher and get this fixed. I can't play like this. My driver is really costing me some strokes right now. I can use my 3w off the tee, but as you can imagine, the swing is the same and ends with the same result, just not so exaggerated.

It is more of a vent for now. I started this thread so I can update once I get these things sorted out. I wanted to post up what drills/changes I do along the way to getting my swing back to where it was.

I had another meeting with my teacher yesterday. It's getting back on track now. I am not swaying at all which I had the tendency to do and that caused major issues. I shortened my back swing a bit...well, it feels short to me but is actually right where it should be now. My key thought right now is to drop the right elbow on the downswing. This is a pretty common knowledge thing, but I had gotten out of doing it for whatever reason and it was also causing major issues. He says I am really close to having my swing where it needs to be. Once I get these things consistent, my handicap should start showing improvement. Then he wants to focus on my short game.

On a side note, I got my swing speed and what not measured yesterday (I thought I would throw this in with all of the distance talk going around). My driver swing speed averaged around 106.xx. My carry averaged around 245-247. My carry was actually longer than I thought. And that was with a smooth swing where I felt like I was backing off a bit. That just showed me that swinging hard throws me out of whack and I lose distance. Tempo is a big thing!!
