I played yesterday and I have been hitting my drives better than ever. A few weeks ago I had my swing clocked at 94. I'm ok with that, after all I am an old dude. lol
This is what I noticed yesterday. I hit the cheaper balls as far as more expensive balls and I don't mean Walmart Nitros or Top Flight Rocks but balls like Slazengers, Dunlop DDH, Pinnacle. Mostly balls I find on the course. I buy the NXT TOUR and think I hit it best. Again they all average about the same distance. What made me think of this is on one particular hole I hit two balls, the Dunlop DDH(I use for practice) and I hit a PROV1. I hit the PROV1 about 10 yards further. Another hole the same thing, NXT TOUR VS the PROV1, about 6 to 8 yards further.

I don't think I have the swing speed to hit the PROV1 effectively but this does surprise me. I have been hitting the ball fairly straight or a slight fade lately and it's been good. But when I miss with the PROV1 I really miss.

Again, WHY?

My guess: either a) a statistical anomaly that will go away with more trials; b) a psychological effect since you know which ball is "better" and may swing differently; or c) your normal drives have too little backspin, so the additional spin from the Pro V1 corrects this somewhat and holds your drive up.

Adding to what zeg said, you should get more spin out of a Pro V1. So, it will hold up longer with more backspin, but that same spin will also work sideways. So, if you don't square one up it is more likely to be a worse slice or hook than with a cheaper ball because of the added spin.

Also, there sure are a lot of Tennesseans on this site!

Ditto, you probably need the spin.

Yes, I usually only hit the PROV1 on Par 3's. But lately I have been hitting the driver as my best club. Now if I could just hit the green in reg.

Yes, we Tennesseans will volunteer for anything..........

Chickasaw Golf course in Henderson? I played it a couple of months ago. The greens were a little rough but not bad. I like the layout a lot, but absolutely hate the bugs.

The greens are basically non-existent now. I played there last week and there is no grass left. It was in terrible shape. I hate to see that, too. When it was the Bear Trace, it used to be in such nice shape. They only charged me $10 for a round the other day. I found out why when I reached the first green. It really is a shame.
