I am about to purchase a HiBore driver. I am confused about what shaft I should get for it and wondering what the main difference between 9.5 and 10.5 is for the Driver head. I hit my 7 iron 155 and have been told that means I should get a stiff shaft. I am curious as to why this is and why would I not want to get a graphite shaft since I can swing that alot faster and generate more clubhead speed?? Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Regarding the loft, there are varying opinions on this, but my thought is that if you're playing to a 30 or above index, go with the 10.5. You won't see a huge difference either way but the higher the loft, the more you will decrease sidespin.

On the shaft side of things, I don't think that the distance you hit your 7 iron would really have any sort of impact on which shaft you should buy. There are all sorts of variable like tempo, clubhead speed, and where you release your wrists to start with. I would definately suggest the whole launch monitor fitting if you're swinging the club consistently enough to make it worth your time. The other option, which I went with on my HiBore, is to play it a few months with the stock shaft, see what you like and don't like about it, to help make the upgraded shaft selection a little bit easier. As for stiff shafts, that doesn't neccesarily mean steel, that means a graphite shaft in a stiff flex. I'm sure there are some steel options, but with the improvement of technology in graphite, I can't imagine why anyone would do that anymore. Enjoy the HiBore, it's a great golf club

You can get a stiff graphite shaft... they make them in all sorts of flexes. I don't think anyone is suggesting you get it in steel.

I'd see a clubfitter if I were you.

I agree with this, 155 is really just a little above average distance, so feel, shape shot, trajectory, tempo need to be considered also. I play with two guys both carry their their 7 iron about 155. One is a handsy quick swinger who hits the ball fairly high, almost always plays a draw and when he misses its a hook. My other friend has a long smooth swing with a nice transition and likes to work the ball both ways, his misses are short and straight. Handsy plays a stiff and smoothie plays a regular. Interestingly Smoothie hits the driver much farther, maybe 15-20 yards even though they hit their irons about the same.

155 is good for a 7 iron and above average. All guides I see from clubfitters would indicate a stiff graphite and I think a softer shaft would go too high and left for you, without even seeing your swing, if you consistantly hit a 7 iron 155. Go with the higher loft as stated with your index.

i think there are so many variables contained within the golf swing, the only sure way to get the right loft and shaft is to hit them and watch the flight of the ball and how the ball feels coming off the clubhead. i agree you should definitely opt for the graphite shaft. i don't even know if you can get a hi-bore with a steel shaft.

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
    • This is the part I don’t get. He’s not even kind of sandbagging, he’s blatantly doing it and submitting scores that are verified to be incorrect. How he’s not banned from competition is beyond me.
    • He's right in what he's saying.I also have done this experiment with a golf shaft swinging with one arm at a time.one arm at a time is for me very fast but both hands together are very slow ..I got my 17 year old son to do this experiment and he swung very fast with either hand and he swung very fast with both hands together..My conclusion up to now is ; I'm not using my wrists properly but I not a 100 percent sure just yet..I will keep trying to fathom this out .I'm a 12 handicap and my son is 3.9 at Westlancs..
