Is there a noticeable performance difference between these brands of clubs (which I have never seen advertisement for) and say Titleist, TaylorMade, Ping etc clubs?

I only ask because the most respected and best reviewed club maker in WA state sells these brands of equipment (which leads me to believe that they are great clubs). Also has Diamana and UST Tour shafts.

He believes these brands are the best and I don't doubt him. But I am curious as to why these brands aren't advertised on TV at all? Anyone play with any of these clubs and how do you compare them to a major companies clubs?

I want to get fit by this guy because he is the best and is in my area. He has his own shop and website. Jim Von is his name and his store is Von's Golf for anyone in WA who might have been fitted by him.

There smaller companies that don't advertise as much. I have neard nothing but great things about Miura but you are looking at spending a bit more for the craftsmanship and beauty. Some have even said that the feel is up there with the Mizunos which is high praise indeed. Oh yeah take a look at Fourteen golf and Scratch golf as well they both make beautiful highend clubs as well. I know my scratch 1018 is the best wedge I have ever hit even better than the vokeys in my opinion.

Not familiar with Zodia, but the other 3 rank right up there with all the OEMs and higher because of customization options.

Many would consider those brands to be more of a "boutique" item. I've heard nothing but great things about Miura and Wishon, though. I live in WA, where is Von's Golf?

The only club maker/fitter within driving distance to me sells Wishon, Swing Science, and Infiniti. He seems to be very accomplished and has great recommendations but I'm having a hard time dishing out that kind of money for equipment that you don't see being played much. He is about the only fitting option I have. Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy are over two hours away and I don't trust them at all and I wouldn't waist my time or money having someone at a local course do it. This guy charges $80 for a driver fitting and $80 for an iron fitting. If you do both you get a free putter fitting. If you purchase clubs through him they take this off the price. I've been wanting a set of Callaway Diablo Forged irons but getting fit for them is next to impossible around here. I'm either going to have to buy off-the-rack or get fit for a set of "botique" irons.

Where in Ohio are you, if I may ask? Just curious as to who the fitter is.

I have a combo set of Wishon irons. Like Mizuno, of which I also own a set, the Wishon irons undergo a five step forging process and are very soft. There is very little, if any, difference between the Wishons and the Mizuno. When you factor in price, you actually get more bang for your buck. I was able to purchase the Wishons, 5-PW, brand new with customized shafts, spined and flo'd for consistency, (think SST Pure process) and some Iomic grips for $400 less than a new set of uncustomized Mizunos.

Additionally, FWIW, Tom Wishon is responsible for making Payne Stewart's golf clubs and Phil Mickelson once played KZG irons, another high end component company that makes fantastic golf clubs.

Miura--even nicer than Mizuno's. Excellent clubs and I believe they also make Samari swords, which in my mind means quality forging.

Wishon--never hit them, but have read nothing but glowing reports. Also Tom Wishon has many accolades from his work. Quality equipment and one of the best conponent companies. Alpha--not bad, a little "clicky" IMO. Zodia--not familar with them at all. UST tour shafts--haven't hit them since the V2 a couple of years ago. I didn't really like the shaft that much, but it wasn't the shaft for my ss either. I would think that your fitter has a launch monitor which would help you get a shaft for your ss. Diamana--Haven't hit this shaft, pretty expensive, big hit on the tour, but if it fits your ss and you like it what else can be said?

Miura, IMHO, are the finest clubs made today. Rumor has it that they made the clubs, Titleist put their name on them and Tiger played them, until he went to Nike and then Miura made them, Nike put their name on them and Tiger played them.

Miura has made clubs for several of the big OEM's like Titleist and Taylormade. I can't speak to the others you mentioned but hitting a Miura is a thing of beauty, once hitting them it's hard to imagine playing anything else. Right now I am on a quest to own a set, my wife promised me if I can get down to my fighting weight I can own them. It's the only thing that has ever motivated me drop more than a few pounds.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

Sounds good man! I hope you get there!

I've been saving to get a fully fit set of clubs and hopefully can have it done before 2011. Miura do look like beautiful clubs.
