Hey guys,

Its been a while since I've posted here, but recently my inconsistency has gotten really high - my good rounds are getting better and my bad round getting worse.  From about this time last year through the end of the summer I was pretty consistently in the low/mid 80's to low 90's.  My last 10 rounds are:

83, 87, 100, 89, 78, 103, 88, 89, 83, 98

These scores were all achieved on courses which are more or less "normal" difficulty from either the back tees or second from back tees - average rating probably 71/125 ish.  Is this at all normal - I mean a 78 followed 3 days later by a 103, on the same course from the same tees???

I'm just wondering if anyone else sees this kind of thing.  My handicap has continued to slowly fall through all this (currently 11.4) because all the 103 type crap gets dropped and I am still shooting some good scores, but its just weird.

Sounds really weird.

Maybe you should have a look at your bad rounds afterwards and find out, _why_ you scored so much worse then the day before. Bad driving, too many penalty strokes, putting?

Usually you will find out what to work on an get more consistent.

Yeah your inconsistencies sound a little bit "extreme".  For a while I would shoot low 90's and then turn around and shoot a 120+ (at my worst)  But I did exactly what mihi said.  I analyzed my bad shots and most of them (if not all) were penalty strokes off the tee box or playing too aggressively and that coupled with a lot of courses I have never played before (summer time i go around to a lot of different courses)  caused me to shoot way worst scores.

Might try out Scorecard or a similar software. You can chart fairways hit, GIR, length of first putts, etc. Then, you can look for patterns.

Not sure when the last few rounds were played or where you live... any chance you have an injury which is getting aggravated by playing frequently?

Focus, connect and follow through!

You know I think you may have hit on something with the injury because the 4 worst rounds of the 10 I posted (100,103, 89 & 98) were all when I was carrying my bag.  The 89 was on a 73/130 rated course so it wasn't too bad but still.  Normally I use a pull cart but forgot it or lent it to my wife for those 4 rounds.  The other rounds I'm pretty sure I was using the pull cart (If I am remembering correctly - one may have been riding but I almost never ride).

I guess I'll be sure to remember my pull cart from now on (and we just got another one for my wife so she won't be using mine any more).

I can concur with injury causing inconsistent play....

I had a torn labrum, it got bad enough that I had surgery in October...

Before that, back in 08 and 09... it was a matter of adjusting to how my shoulder was set that day, sometimes I could find the swing, other days it wasn't there
