Let me just say, I went with this shaft after doing some research and using the Maltby playability factor for shafts. I wasn't completely satisfied with my stock shaft in my R9 (too high spin shaft for me) I went with the Arthur Extreme Engineering XCaliber +6 shaft which is just $50 retail.

Here come some scary numbers:

Handicap: 14.8

Average swing speed: 112-116

Aldila RE AX 60 Stiff:

Launch angle: 12.6*
Spin rate: 4922 rpm
Avg Carry: 261 yds
Avg Roll: 17 yds

AXE +6 Stiff:

Launch angle: 7.2*
Spin Rate: 3040 rpm
Avg Carry: 263 yds
Avg Roll: 31 yds

And without a doubt it's much easier to keep this thing in the fairway with this shaft. I love it.

Spin rate is near enough but the launch angle is too low, it needs to be up around 12 degress, no surprise it's better than the standard TM shaft though.

Looks like the original shaft was generally too tip-flexible for your swing profile, so it was bowing forward excessively before impact -- increasing the effective loft of the head and the backspin on the ball.

Are these readings averages, though, or just two recorded shots? Because almost 5.5 degrees difference in launch angle is a lot to attribute solely to a shaft change.

Yep averages of 10 shots for each shaft.

I was thinking that too. My face angle at impact was 2* lower with the new shaft. I mean, I'll take 294 avg any day but it could be more. I recently injured my thumb so my swing isn't quite back to normal yet. Possibly closing the face at impact too much.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
