I went and paid 120$$ today to have my clubs fitted/tuned... My irons were right on for my swing speed and release point and so on. BUT my driver was the only club that came back with a bad frequency to what my swing and all the sensors they put on the clubs told the computer SO here is my request for advice.....THEY want me at 248 freq. 46" SPEEDER 757....$225.00 plus labor...I hit a club with that shaft on it but it wasnt my "head" just the shaft and I think a cobra head....2nd part of the question is....what other brands make good shafts that I coould put in...I like the look of UST's......I just dont get how the guy can just say "you need the 46" speeder 757"

SO if anyone knows much about shafts please give me some advice

Club head speed is 109-112mph.
6'6"

the fitting process is long and involved.. many things go into fitting a driver shaft such as tempo, swingspeed and swing type to name a few. When the computer reviews your swing it takes all the data YOU have provided and gives you the best shaft for your style. The Fujikura Speeders shaft series is one of the most expencive and highest quality shaft lines today. The key to all speeder shafts is the Triax material, with this carbon fiber that is woven into a honeycomb sturcture giving each shaft better ability to withstand force. The shaft deforms less during a the swing then many other models from the competitier. Other shafts that are worth a look would be models from Aldila.. However if your fitting pro came up with the speeder shaft there is a reason..

goodluck hope this helps..

IMHO Fujikura mades one of the of best golf shafts today..

Shafts are so important and finding the right one is crucial in my opinion. I've gotten to the point where it's more important to me than the head. It seems silly that any person who collects money for club fitting would go through the entire proccess only to reccomend only one shaft. The truth is, many shafts have the same or nearly the same characteristics. Instead of narrowing in on one shaft, my question would be what is it about that Speeder shaft that makes it right for you. Is it the flex? the kickpoint? the tourque? etc. Once you have that data it's easy enough to find other shafts with those same specs. Most online retailers have all the spec information you need to do all the research yourself.

Nichols74,

It's important to fit your golf shaft to your swing and desired playing needs. The shaft and clubhead need to work together to properly translate your swing mechanics into the appropriate ball flight and maximize the energy transfered to the ball. The thousands of different shafts on the market are flexible and stiff in different areas which function better for different swing mechanics and tempos. Since there are no two swings that are alike, there need to be many different shafts to fit all the different swings out there. The Speeder 757 is a fantastic shaft, high quality and superb performance. It is a tip stiff, butt stiff, mid flex profile that fits a wide variety of golfers provided they are properly fitted for the correct flex. It definitely has a unique feel that other companies are dying to replicate, it feels very smooth for smooth swings, yet still retains control for times when you need to "step on the gas." It has long been a favorite shaft of mine. There are other comparable shafts on the market. One that comes to mind is the Harrison Striper Tour. The Striper is the same bend profile, and has the advantage of being available in a variety of weights, from sixty to eighty grams depending on your preference and tempo. Graphite Designs International just released their Pershing shaft which I have been testing and have been extremely impressed with. It is remarkably similar in bend profile to the 757 and retains the silky smooth feel, at just 1/3 of the price. It's available in weights from 55-75 grams, and has a longer parallel tip section which is great for clubfitters wanting to fine tune the tip flex for customers and bore-through applications. I'd take a long hard look into the Pershing for your application, especially if you're a good fit for the 757!

I agree with the mention of Graphite Design by "gas_can" regarding Graphite Design shafts. The "Pershing" line is indeed new, but you can also try looking into their "Tour AD" line & "Ten Nines" line for comparison. If Fujikura is still your choice, there's the "Fit-On" line & also "Rombax" line. Another shaft to put into consideration would be the Mitsubishi "Diamana" line, but I've been told that there's a difference between the ones with the "flowerband" on it & the ones without. Of course I myself would most likely not know the difference...heheheh...except maybe seeing the big hole in my wallet or bank account if I did purchase the former....

Shigeki,

The Tour AD line is a very polarized line. The I series is a fairly high kick, tip stiff shaft. The W series on the other hand are extremely soft tipped, and are very difficult for stronger players to control. I've only used the W series for fairway wood applications with players who have extreme difficulty elevating their woods. Not to mention the extreme cost, I think there are better options on the market. As far as the Diamana, it's a somewhat similar bend profile to the 757, with a slightly stiffer tip and softer butt, so it tends to favor a player who can keep their wrist cock a little later in the downswing. Concerning the presence and absence of the flowerband on the Diamana. The retail US blueboard Diamana has no flowerband and is silver in color. The Japanese retail has a shiny ion colored finish with the flowerband. The only difference between these two shafts is 2-3g of added weight added by the ion plating. The retail US redboard Diamana (softer tip than the blue) and whiteboard Diamana (stiffer tip than blue, softer butt) both have the flowerband and the silver color.

Thanks for all that info gas_can! I was considering switching back to an older Fujikura shaft for my hybrid that I have that is still good in my opinion. It's one from the "Blue Thunder" line that worked well for me in the past, but I'll have to wait & see. Again, thanks for the info!!

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
