Titelist AP1's or AP1 710 irons?

11 handicap. very interested in titelist irons. currently have callaways but like the new look and thin top line of the cavity back AP1's

What should i get?

should i even get Titelist irons?

or should i get taylormade,cobra,callaway,ping,nike,cleveland, etc.?

please give some feed back, and it would be much appreciated, because high school golf season is right around the corner in Florida, and i need to gear up!

AP1's are rather thick at the top.  The AP2's are thinner.  According to Titleist, they (AP2) are very similar to my 755's and are rated fairly close for playability as well.

I don't like AP1's with the standard lie, and an steel "S" shaft.   I like them with a  2 deg change in lie and an graphite "A" shaft.

So if you wake up in the morning after a night of partying with the faries....and find your self 40 years older....then take my advice! (I'm 60.)

Go to a store where you can actually hit with them. Better yet find a club fitter and get fitted. Every major brand makes a club that may help your game....and they all make a club that will do the exact opposite.

As for AP1 vs AP2 - my game will get worse with age, so I went with the more forgiving AP1's. Does this fit your situation......I hope not!

Yeah-go try them out.  The TITLEISTS.  Although the "Tight List" spelling is rather amusing.

Just about every manufacturer makes irons for every ability level.  Should you get Titleist irons?  If you like them.  You also can mix and match;  AP1 longer irons and AP2 short irons (your decision on where the split point is).

Go ahead and try a good variety of them.  Then get fit for them before buying.  Just about any manufacturer will fit you for free if you expect to purchase (never pay for this service).

Not sure if the OP's question in the subject line was addressed but I can give my own experience with the original version and the 710's. I have an original set of AP1's and I picked them up just as the 710's were introduced so the price was right. Some of the complaints about the original version in my experience are valid. The finish does seem to scratch up easily and becomes dull rather quickly although it does not affect performance in any way. For a Titleist brand club it has a really thick top line and the blade length is long. And a common report from players is the feeling is rather muted at impact (although given the inherent design of GI's I can't see how it's different from any other brand of GI clubs). The 710's are a tweaked version of the original and it does seem that these issues were addressed. In my opinion, given the value in the market for the original version and the 710's I would purchase the original version again. The tweaks that were done is not enough for me to spend the extra $$$ for what is essentially is the same club. The performance characteristics are the same and the original AP1's are relatively inexpensive. But that's just me. I can easily understand why someone would prefer the 710 version. After all, it is the prettier sister!
