Have Scotty Cameron putters gotten better?

I can see cosmetic changes. I'm sure there are some differences that we can't see. scotty really does put a lot of effort into his putters. his new putters, can't remember the name, will be out in the fall and look just like the studio select but different cosmetics.

Given that these are copies of a 40 odd year old design, what changes would you be expecting?
The design works extremely well. Virtually all putter manufacturers base their designs around Ping designs. What sort of "technology" are you thinking about?
Once someone has got a CNC milling machine, there's not much else they can do. There isn't much technology in a putter.
That's why they have to pretend that there's some inherent difference in "German" stainless steel.

He's trued a few original designs: the Detour, the Futura, the.... I think that's it. Mostly recycled stuff though, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Scotty is a marketing genius!  Stick a pool cue in a potato and if it has his name on it....it will be collected.

No more or less than the designers of other high end putters.

And I don't think that "scotty" has very much to do with the day to production of the thousands and thousands of OTR putters that are churned out.  These are very common items. Ubiquitous, in fact.

It's different when it comes to the tour and 009 putters, but again, call a factory a "studio" and make people think that "scotty" has something to do with every putter and the mythology continues.

And I also think that there would be something pretty majorly wrong if the boss of a hugely successful company didn't "put a lot of effort in".

I never said that others don't put a lot of effort into their designs. we are talking about scotty cameron putters here. not other brands. so I said scotty puts a lot of effort into his putters.

 

you have absolutely NOOOOOOOOOOOO idea how much he is involved in his putters. sure, he has workers who makes his putters, but he is in the offices everyday working his ass off with new designs AND with personalization of putters that people send in. he takes a lot of pride in his putters. I wouldn't be surprised if he checks every single putter that is made to meet his standards. 

 

I've read up on pretty much as much as I could on scotty cameron and how his company works. he is involved in everything.

 

 

 

I have seen every cringeworthy video, every interesting video and every boring video. I too have read every article .

There is no doubt that he plays a very prominent role in all of his company's promotional material. As he should.
 

 

I wouldnt say they have gotten better.  All Cameron has done for the most part is taken classic designs, put his own little spin on them and jacked up the price.  Cameron is a marketing genius, but not exactly a club design genius.

yes, he should play a role in his putters. I like the fact that he actually goes to the conventions to promote his clubs and not send some representative.

 

I know I read it some where. I can't remember where though. I tried looking it up again but can't find anything yet.

"Same thing only different" is what I expect from anyones "new "design. 

 

I'm in a situation where I get to play around with a LOT of Scotty Cameron's. Some I hit well, some I don't.  (Some of his original attempts at "space ship" putters are horrible and easily found for sale cheap.)  Like every other club maker you have to try before you buy.

 

I played a Cameron Monterey (just another Ping Anser clone) for 85 days. I liked it, played well with it............but, I  played just as well with putters  1/3 the price, so I exchanged it for new wedges before my 90 day trial period was over.

 

PS: I have a Cameron "improved" Bulls Eye - what is there to improve on a Bulls Eye?  The improvemnt is his use of an Australian company's leather grip. I love that grip!

The price has changed upward over the years.  The old joke used to be Scotty "Xerox" didn't have an original putter design ever. That has changed with the Futura and Detour,but those horses died before thay left the corral!
 

 

No!  Scotty Camerons are Ping Ansers with collectible headcovers.  They're the high dollar equivalent of magnetic bracelets.  But if it works for you, have at it.

Yes. It's all an illusion. I have 10 or 12 Scotty's, and for the life of me, I don't know why. Like you alluded to, for the most part, they're mass-produced for the masses.

They have a cult-like attraction, and a status symbol in the bag.

They are over-rated in my mind.
