I foolishly bought the Sasquatch 460cc 4 months ago on the back of gushing reviews and praise. That's not to say it aint a good driver, I personally couldn't warm to it. I've since bought a mizuno mx-500 which I prefer far more.

Oh, and the sasquatch headcover is a severe pain, you really have to yank it hard whenever you put it back on.

Looking to get a new driver and I'm leaning towards these two. Would appreciate any comments.

Stan,

If you decide to go with the R7 460, I would recommend getting the "Regular" one instaed of the "Draw" model. You can change the weights and set it up for a draw, but later if your swing changes you can set it up for "Nuetral". If you buy the "Draw" model and your swing changes you are stuck!

I have tried both on the Golf Simulator at the local Golf store here. I leaned a little more towards the TaylorMade R7 460, and was the driver I eventually got in a stiff flex and 9.5 degrees. But to each his own, good luck!

I used to have Ping G5 but I changed to the Nike Sasquatch after I gave one

as a gift to a friend of mine.( he basically hit it 30 yards longer at the very

first trial! I could not bear that and I got one for me... now we are very

similar... sometimes I am longer, sometimes he is longer, but very similar

distances)

I once tried the R7, but I don't like the feel.

It is very personal, but I really think that the Sasquatch is easier , more

consistent, therefore, longer. (you might want to check the distances when

you miss. I noticed that the Nike is pretty good even when I miss the

sweepspot or I swing bad!)

Last but not least, when you hit it right, you can hit it very long. I have a

par 4 where I used to hit a drive and a wedge from 90-100 yards. The first

time I went out to play that hole with the Sasquatch, I hit around 365 yards,

considering that my ball was on the edge of the green (not bad considering

that the hole is a par 4 of 375 yards!) I thought that might be the wind or

a "wrong" bounce. Well, that day I hit long drives also on other holes!

If Tiger is playing it.... there must be a reason!

Both are great drivers. Try them both and get fitted.

If you go with the R7, go with the standard R7 460. You're talking a difference of 30.00 between that and the R7 460 Draw.

Good luck!

I had the Sasquatch a few months ago- not a good investment. Although you can hit the ball a bit longer, you will have trouble with accuracy. I have yet to meet someone who says they have a Sasquatch and actually like it. Ironically enough, I bought a R7 Draw and like it a lot. I recommend getting a stiff flex.

I have a SQ Tour and I love it. It's among the most forgiving on mishits that I've ever played. It's my opinion that if you get properly fitted for any given high end driver, you'll get roughly the same distance out of it on well struck shots. I look for how forgiving it is on mishits and it's overall feel. To me, the SQ feels very solid and confidence inspiring.

Best advice to anyone, like many others here said, would just be to try them both out.

I currrently am using a Nicklaus 460DPT and love it. I just got a Nike Sasquatch 9.5 Stiffy from Nike for attending a golf class though. I hit one (same spec) at the class and really enjoyed it, and for free, I am not too picky. I have yet to take the plastic off though, as there is quite a bit of snow here in Utah and more on the way.

Just got the R7 Draw HT driver last week and hit it twice so far at the range and let me say it works, stopped my wicked slice completely. I've hit so far two previous Pinemeadows, Top Flite, TM R5 and the Nike Sasquatch drivers and this one works for me. I now feel confident in hitting the middle of the fariway at every tee. God bless the draw drivers.

p.s. If anyone picks up the upcoming MacTec NVG2 Draw driver coming out in March 1, 2007 please drop a review since I was originally going to get last year's version before i got the TM.

I'm starting to love my R7. Going to take it out on my home course tomorrow for the first time. Was knocking balls out 270 yards today at the range, but I still manage to spray the ball occasionally, so we'll see what happens.

Let us know - I have the R7 460 9.5 stiff and love it!

Stan,

True, but the draw bias for the TM draw driver (don't know about the other brands) is much more significant than the draw set up on the standard driver, unless you buy heavier weights than it comes with and put them in the heel positions (which is an option).

    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
    • Day 552, May 7, 2024 Played nine holes with @NatalieB with irons only from her tees. Didn't really finish out any holes, just hit the irons and approaches and some chips.
    • What has gone downhill? Have you been practicing properly, filming your swing, working on exactly what he suggested without straying? My thoughts are that your results/outcomes from a lesson a year ago probably aren't all that relevant anymore.  And carry distance is far more important than total distance. Total distance is going to vary significantly based on course conditions.
    • One thing that has helped me tremendously is to spray the club face with foot powder when I am on the range. Seeing ball impact can be quite helpful if you are hitting shots all over the place. It's not the cure all, but a good little thing to do on the range. The other thing, and I will forget to do it, is the pre-shot routine. Find me a spot a foot or so from the ball in-line with my target, take my stance, take the swing.  Sometimes you take a BS practice swing with no thought. Make it deliberate.  As far as swing thoughts. I have 3 check-points. First is set-up, Second is my take away, Third is my downswing. I cant explain what I think I just know in my mind. Its a feeling that I have that feels right and experience has shown that if I follow those 3 thoughts more than likely the outcome will be what I was looking for. Now, thinking about the feeling and executing it properly is a whole different thing, that;s why I practice, I used to be over a 20 handicap, I am down to a 15.1 in about a year.  I feel like its good progress. the goal is a 10 by the end of the year. If I make it great, if not, hey at least Im not in Gaza. LOL
