To me, these irons look very similar.

Is this just yet another marketing strategy to get us buying the newer irons? The changes seem to be purely cosmetic

Thoughts?

I thought that as well when I saw them this week. I could be guessing at this but aren't the R11 a tad bit more oversized? And aren't they a bit more offset? Just looks like it from the pictures I have seen. But in the end, it's all a marketing ploy..........and it might just work on me

Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated

I dont buy into it atall, but it does annoy me that they make so much money doing so little work.

I was playing with the head of mizuno golf in europe, and he said they are looking at releasing new models every 6 months now. Just to keep up with the competitors.

And to make it worse, they market them all the be 'better than the last' 'the best irons you will ever hit' 'the most forgiving' etc.

disgusting.

That is one of the main reasons why I am so turned off from the big OEM brands.  I like Jesse Ortiz's (Orlimar, Bobby Jones) comment the he won't put out a new product unless he is absolutely certain that it is better than the one he is currently making/selling.

I think that these are two pretty different sets of irons sharing the same design language as TM looks to push the weight-cartridge technology.

Chances are the weight, width, offset, loft, CG, MOI, etc are very different between these two.  After all, the R11 is to replace the R9 line, not really the TP line of clubs.

Now whether or not TM should introduce new products as often as they do... who cares.  It means cheaper sets of R9s for all.

In the Bag: TaylorMade R11 TP - TaylorMade R7 TP TS - Cleveland Halo - TM TP 2009 3-PW - Vokey SM 52 - Vokey SM 60 - Rife Barbados CS - ProV1x

Yea......that's a big difference!  IMO......the CB's look good and I'd consider them if I was in the market for new irons.

TM website says the CB has a forged face and the rest of the club is cast. Not exactly sure how that works or compares to other forged clubs?

That's a big turnoff for me.....

I've been playing forged Mizuno irons for years now, and there is no way I'll consider anything with "cast" in the description.  I'm sure they are good irons and all........but they don't meet my criteria.

I just bought a set of the TM CB irons and really like them. I tried them side by side with the R11's and there was no comparison. The R11's were consistently shorter and harsher. To me, there was a big difference in the way they played and felt.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
