I got a set of these on the way. I was permitted by the wife after some negotiation. I'm putting them together with TT dynamic gold s300's and Lambkin crossline midsize. I think Iacas has a set of these. Can anyone provide me me some semi specific feedback?

Thanks!

I can give you feedback on the grips--I use lampkin midsize crossline and really like the feel and grip quality. A good choice for humid or wet conditions. Maltby makes quality, well respected clubs--haven't played the TE forged irons, but the pictures on the internet look great.

Do I need head covers for these? I keep reading that there will be "bag chatter" and they will get marked up becasue of the soft metal. which makes no sesne to me since smacking the ground and a golf ball at 100 MPH doesn't mark them up?

YES YES YES get head covers. As soon as you get your clubs and play one round with them, the value will depreciate. You want to take care of your high dollar purchase by protecting them with head-covers so that when you buy the next set of whiz-bang clubs 3-5 years from now, these will be in their best shape for trade in. Taking care of clubs is not easy at first but head-covers are the best and cheapest thing you can do to protect them. Yes, head-covers will make it quieter when you walk and protect the heads from knocking against each other on every step.

completely disagree, while they may protect your clubs headcovers for IRONS are probably the tackiest thing any golfer can do.

Do your own thing. The last set of forged irons I had (Mizunos), I kept them clean and covered. Got an extra $100 on trade in because they were in such good shape.

And who gives a damn what other people think? I guess some of the more insecure worry about it, but I don't. YMMV...

Mizuno recommends against covers because they can trap moisture and that can cause problems with their metal. I ride and keep mine clean and use a big honking cart bag that keeps them from chatting. I will use covers if/when I travel.

Never had that problem, but I always clean and dry the head before I put the cover on anyway.

I have the TE Forged irons on the short end of my bag (8 through GW) and love them.  Very low center of gravity, very forgiving on mishits, and they are a really clean, nice looking club.  I get a nice high trajectory with them coupled with R flex TT Lite XL shafts.  I have the same shaft in the KE4's and I get about the same distance with both clubs (lofts are the same too), but haven't honestly played them enough or really took the time to compare distances, but I'm still pulling the same club for a given distance.  I've been playing the KE4 irons and wanted to try the TE's, so I started with the shorter clubs and worked back through the bag to be sure I liked them.  And I do like them!  It's hard to describe the sound when you hit one just right, but it's a nice sound, which translates to a nice "feel".  You know when you hit it off the toe, but it's not harsh, and it still flies fairly straight.  Even hitting it a little thin still results in a decent trajectory thanks the the low CoG and turns a bad hit into a good miss.

Since it's starting to snow today, I probably won't get in too big a hurry to swap out the 5, 6 and 7 irons (and maybe a 4 iron too).  I'll probably save that for a cold, snowy day winter project.  Once I have all the KE4's swapped out for the TE's, I'll put the KE4's in another bag for the vacation set.

As for the head covers, the only time I use them is when flying or long road trips with them.  Otherwise, they will see more abuse hitting a ball then they will resting in the bag.

I knew it!  I've got Mizunos and I think my 6 iron has been chatting with my 7 iron, too!  I think they might be planning a mutiny.  If they can convince my driver to join them, I'm gonna be screwed. Maybe I should get those iron covers..... JK

Anyone valuing clubs because of bag chatter (as opposed to actual wear) needs their head examined anyway.

Don't buy headcovers. Just don't. They're ugly, they trap moisture unless you keep your clubs flawlessly clean and dry on the course which is virtually impossible, and bag chatter is actually cool. A set of irons is like a set of Chuck Taylors-  unless they've got holes in them that make them totally unwearable  (clubs: unless they're severely worn or broken), they look cooler the more worn they get. Nothing looks cooler than a set of 10 year old, forged irons that someone still loves to play. Bag chatter is cool.

All my opinion, of course.
