ok, this is one of my first posts but im looking for some help... i ended last season with a 7 handicap hitting the ball decent and played a slight draw. ive hit the range once and course a few times with all the warm weather we were having here in michigan tha past few weeks. I can tell you i was not happy.. i was coming across everything push fading the drives and flaring all the irons and even wedges approching the greens.. frustrating for a guy that used to hit a draw!? i know its early in the season and i have a few kinks to work out but ive tried working on it and not getting better... i even try coming way inside on the back swing and still cant get the draw flight i want.. any help would be great from you all. i know and study golf and cau usually help people with their swings. just kind of hard to fix my own... hope to get some good info out there. and ask me any questions you may need to know to help even further.

I'd suggest making sure the ball isn't too far forward and the handle isn't too far back.  The further the ball moves forward in the stance the move your will have a tendency to swing across it.  And for the handle location it's easier to curve it right to left with the handle forward at set-up.

Your profile says you're a righty but you also said " i was coming across everything push fading " - If you're coming across the ball surely that's a pull and not a push?

If it's truly a push fade then I'd start out by making sure your left hand grip is nice and strong so that you have no chance of flaring the club wide enough to fade it, then move onto Mike's setup points above.

Be careful, now. If his path is "across" the ball (out to in, or to the left) four degrees and his clubface is 2 degrees open, that's a push-fade.

Push and pull "feel" like path motions but in terms of ball flight* they are far more face related.

* On curving shots. On straight shots - pulls and pushes - they're obviously both path and face.

Well I never knew that. I always thought the ball starting left of target was a pull and right was a push and the fade/draw was the curvature.

The middle could be the target or it could be the stance line, depending on how you're talking about things. A push-fade (stance line) is a great shot if the stance is pointed well left of the target, for example.

Yeah that's the normal flight diagram I look at.

I've just always viewed it from a target perspective rather than stance perspective so everything left was always a "pull" variant to me. If I set up aiming well left, put the ball forward in my stance, open the club face and 'fade' the ball I always thought of it as a pull-fade.

And that's fine, but the point remains that "pull" shots are not dictated by the path. If he's push-fading the ball he could still be swinging to the left, just as someone swinging right could "pull-draw" the ball.

ok few good tips andyes i do think i may play the ball a bit to far upfront. and i do have a slightly weak left grip but that was to help from over drawing the ball last season.. i was told by my buddy who is a pro out in cali that mu impact position is a bit off and i release too early. he noticed that because i hit shots very high! although feel solid not as solid as they could be. not sure if that has anything to do with my problem as well? like i said was playing well last year and not sure if its just pre season kinks but if you guys know of any drill i could maybe practice to get my position where  i need it to be that would be great. thanks again for the fast responses. look forward to fixing this asap

One of the best drills I can think of.  Weight forward, hips forward, hands forward and smash the ball

if you do it like Erik in the video there is a very good chance you'll draw it.  Again it's a drill to emphasize having the hands/handle forward at impact.

    • Day 74: foam ball work tonight. Worked on slowing down and getting the feels to get the shoulder down.
    • I was recently told that Turning Dtone in New York is a nice overall resort and they’ve they have 3 courses as well as many other amenities. A quick TST search turned up older threads with a lot of comments on how difficult the courses are. Does anybody know if they have “relaxed” the courses over the years or are they still hard as far as resort courses go? I do not mind a hard course but my wife can get frustrated but if good scenery and good course conditions she may still enjoy a hard course. What are your thoughts on their courses and the resort in general? Edited for typos
    • Day 615 - 2026-06-09 Officiated in the morning and then did some Skillest lessons before getting some work in during a really long seventh inning (I think).
    • Day 280 6-9 low point control, practice missing towel. No ball, started to get the hang of hitting way in front of towel. Going to keep at it.
    • Day 9 - (9 Jun 26) - Weekly nine hole session with my good friend, I played again from one set of tees up from my usual (set up the bag 4h, 6i-Pw, Gw, Lw) to focus more on iron play in the approaches (esp longer ones on the 4's and 5's).  Used the hybrid for tee shots only, had to play irons in from there on....made for a great work on course management and dealing with iron shots I normally don't see.  Key focus was on keeping ball in play, playing to distances that set up for either GiR or nGiR's.  Played a split nine (5 on the front, 4 on the back - the turn works nicely as both nines turn and run parallel coming in - easy to jump from 5 to 15 (especially when the course is not busy)).  Worked with my friend on his course management skills - offering thoughts as a "caddie" might and helping him to confidently choose and execute the shot he was seeing.
