I'm going to get the CG16's, 50° 54° 58°. I want to get 52° 56° 60° but the last two clubs in my iron set is are 40° 45°, so I think the 50° 54° 58° is best. If its not crazy to jump from 45° to 52° please let me know because I like the tiny bit of extra loft.

The main question I have is, bounce. I want to buy the wedges in a set, and can only find a couple configurations. Standard bounce 2 dots, and low bounce 1 dot. The 50° seems to only come in standard bounce, so here are the two sets....

Standard bounce / Two dots

50°/10 ••

54°/14 ••

58°/12 ••

- or-

Low bounce / One dot

50°/10 ••

54°/10 •

58°/8   •

I play only in Las Vegas and my home course seems pretty dry and hard. Sand is usually hard also, so I was thinking the low bounce set should be the one for me. I'm still new and it probably doesn't matter ATM, but I want to get the clubs that seem to make sense for my main course. The roughs I'm in most of the time are medium length also.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

Sincerely, Jim

I'm playing 54* and 58* and just choke down on my PW when I need to fill the gap.  You could go 52, 58 and later add a 64 if you wanted to add a 3rd wedge.

I would go low-bounce given your normal playing conditions. 45* to 52* is not crazy by any means. I believe Tiger's PW is 47* and his wedges are 56* and 60*. If you go that route, I'd follow newtogolf's recommendation when you're in between clubs. If I may make a suggestion, what about going 50/56/60, and bending the 56* to 55* (and removing a degree of bounce). Then you'd have five-degree gaps from 40* to 60*.

I would do the opposite and get as much bounce as you possibly can. http://thesandtrap.com/t/57874/my-edel-wedges-or-super-bounce-and-why-its-good-for-you-or-the-sweet-spot-is-finally-in-the-right-place/

Yah Larry, I was thinking lower bounce also, but I think iacas has swayed me to the higher bounce option. I'll just have to learn how to properly play the bounce.

Now I'm thinking....

CG16 Standard bounce / Two dots

52°/10 ••

56°/14 ••

60°/12 ••

I don't think there is a high bounce option in these wedges. So standard will be fine. I probably wont order for another week, so nothings set in stone yet. I'm still slightly open to any other wedge setup.

Sincerely, Jim

Other than my PW I carry a 52.08 and a 58.08.  Both are Vokeys.  the 58 is my sand/lob wedge and the 52 is my gap wedge.  I'm not a long hitter so those two clubs work well for me in those applications.  Around here we don't see a lot of hard pan so the 08 bounce was a good choice for me.

I'm going to buy the wedges separate because I'm pretty sure I want this set up now....

CG16

52°/10 ••

56°/14 ••

60°/8 •

I'm afraid I wont be able  to hit the 60°/12 from the fairway and fringe. I'm new and haven't heard of hardpan yet, but I'm guessing it something like a hard dry fairway or short rough. Would I be able to hit my 60°/12 from the "hardpan" lol? Or should I get the 60°/8? I'm fine with the other two clubs the 52°/10 and the 56°/14, I'm just not sure about the 60°. Any thoughts would be great .

Sincerely, Jim

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
