2012 Sun Mountain Four 5 Stand Bag Review

After a lot of research, I decided which bag to buy. I was very into the idea of having a 14-way divider for my clubs, and I definitely wanted a stand bag. But in my experience while I was looking for reviews and opinions, I couldn't really find a full length, in depth, up to date review on this bag, so since I decided on the four 5, I decided I would do a review.

I just got it in the mail today, and I took a few unboxing pictures. I'll give my "first-glance" opinions today, and after I've played a few rounds with it I will post my experiences.

The packaging consisted of the four 5 inside a plastic bag, inside a box.

Not impressive, but I doubt any serious damage could have been done.

But that is probably Golfsmith's doing, not Sun Mountain.

I love the elastic loops to keep the legs from coming out in a cart,                       ,

very intuitive and one of the little things that I love about Sun Mountain.

These are 3 of the pockets, an open water bottle pocket, a smaller ball pocket,

and a larger multi use pocket.

The bag stands alone without the legs, but is very prone to tipping,

as any stand bag would be without its legs.

Fully loaded with all of my stuff inside, stores everything nicely.

For those who carry their bag and want individual club dividers, the Sun Mountain 2012 Four 5 Stand Bag is ideal. It weighs under 5.5 pounds and has contoured carry straps for maximum comfort, and the E-Z Fit Dual Straps are easy to adjust for a custom fit. What sets the Four 5 Stand Bag apart from other carry bags is the bag's 14-way top. Like other bags with 14-way tops, all of the dividers run the full length of the bag for optimal club protection and organization. While it is designed to carry, it also works efficiently on a riding cart.

The main idea of this bag is that is extremely light, but still has all the features you could ask for, and it works for carrying and walking. And based off of what I have seen so far, that is exactly what it does. When I took it out of the box I was expecting to be light, but even though I knew it was coming I was still surprised.

Looks:

I ordered the red/black/gunmetal color, and it looks awesome. I love the red trim, because when a bag is all one dominating color like red or yellow, it's just too flashy and attention grabbing. I mean if you like that go for it, but this is more my style. Mainly muted colors, with a little bit of style, and it still looks sleek. There are two sun mountain symbols, the big on on the big apparel pocket, and a smaller one on a multi use pocket on the other side.

Pockets:

There are 6 pockets in total, plus the small pen pocket you can see in the bottom two pictures, to the left of the sun mountain logo. The first is the large apparel pocket for rain gear, clothes, 12 packs of balls, or any other large items you need to store. And it expands very well, so I am sure you can fit all of the stuff you need to. Also on the opposite side is the second largest pocket, which you can see 2 pictures up from this writing, on the right side. I use it for gloves, athletic tape, energy shots, stuff like that. It also expands for large capacity. There is a valuables pocket above the sun mountain logo on the apparel pocket side, where I put my tees and ball markers, and also my phone when I am playing a round. Then there are 3 pockets on the back, let's start at the top. The water bottle pocket is also very big, and could probably fit 2 or 3 regular sized water bottles, or a large gatorade bottle. Then a ball pocket, below the water bottle pocket. It can probably hold around 25 balls, and it is where I keep my Pentas. (My gamers) Then below that is a slightly lager pocket, where you can put all your misc. items. This is where I keep all the balls I found around the course, or the balls I will use on a bad day where I can use a ball where I don't care if I lose it. Or if there a sleeve of balls I want to try out.

14 Way Dividers:

This is by far the best feature of the bag. I HATED the fact that whenever I tried to put clubs in or take clubs out of my old bag, the grips would stick, other clubs would come out too, and I would never feel the bottom of the club hit the bottom of the bag. With this bag, I can put the length of the grip inside my bag, let gravity do the rest, and you hear that satisfying thud of the grip hitting the bottom of the bag. I even tried packing my apparel pocket as full as I could to see if it would put pressure on the main cavity of the bag where the clubs are stored, but it had no effect. This is another thing I hated about my old bag.

Straps:

I will probably expand on this section once I play a few rounds, but from what I can tell these straps are extremely comfortable. The fit to your shoulder just right, and adjusting the straps is very easy. Even though I barely had to adjust anything to get it the way I like it. Also the hip pad on the bag is very nice because if your bag is banging against your hip, you'll hardly feel it.

Stand Legs:

These are extremely sturdy, and even purposely bumping into and pushing the bag, it seems that unless its intentional, you wont tip this bag over. Also I like the molded feet, they have a shape so that they are completely flat on the ground when the legs are folded out. The mechanism is very sturdy, and very springy, but it would be nice if there was a bit less resistance to the legs folding out. Or maybe they are compensating for the fact that the springs will partially wear out over time, who knows?

Conclusion:

There are many cool things I like about this bag, like the 14 way dividers, the cart strap tunnel,(to the left of the towel ring), and the weight, but it would be nice to have a few extra pockets. I found myself just one pocket short of having everything organized completely the way I wanted it, but it still works very well. So I give this bag 9.5/10. It's as close to perfect as your gonna find.
