My buddy and I golf a lot and the other day he asked if I'd mind if he brought his boy (13) along.  I figured we were playing a local state course and It was just for fun so why not....  The kid hit his driver pretty good...sliced a little like a lot of us starting up but got it up in the air better than a lot of people can.  His irons were pretty good too...no prodigy or anything but good for a kid who started last march...  Then came his "60 degree that my Pop got me for Christmas".  The kid hits the thing 45 yards every time and get this....back spin enough to back the ball up a couple of feet....it wasn't once, it wasn't twice...every time the kid he hit it onto the green he could create enough back spin to stop and back the ball up.   I was so impressed and joked with him, "you gotta teach me that!"  and he looked at me with the most serious look possible...."I would but I have no idea how I do it...it just happens"

We played 9 and he hit a 53

You probably generate more spin than he does, but your landing angle is shallower. A ball with minimal spin will roll backwards if it lands at 90°.
