Interesting club change here

I made an interesting moves with my clubs. Today I went and picked up a Ping Tour Sand Wedge, because the gap between my 52* and 60* was killing my game, and I find the 56* is a ton easier to chip with then the 52*. I took out my 4 iron to make room for my 56* wedge. Most people probably aren't going to like this move, because it leaves me without a 4 iron..but I struggled hitting my 4 iron anyway, and it only went 10 yards further (when I made good contact with it) then my 5 iron. So, as you look at my signature, you can see how my bag lays out. I'd just like to see what some experienced players would have taken out to throw in that extra wedge.

Well, can I ask why you need two 19* clubs?
I would have gotten rid of one of those instead of the 4. but I do understand that you took it out because you arent hitting it consistently enough to keep. Just confused about the two-in-one loft thing.

One's a hybrid the other a 5 wood (obviously lol)...well, anyway my 5 wood goes about 200 but I can only hit my hybrid 185 and that may be streching it. I can not hit my 5 wood out of the rough, so I am always using my hybrid out of the rough it's wayy easier to hit out of there and the shallow face on my Bobby Jones 5 wood makes it only money from the fairway. I just can't take one of those out of my bag - so, I guess this was the best way to go. I was just wondering how other people would've done this.

And since you are asking what I would have done, then I would have dropped the 5wood in place and kept the 4 iron.

To add an extra wedge to my bag, I would probably end up ditching my 5 wood - although I think I'd regret it before I finished a single round. I need a 5 wood to get over trees and get distance, when a 3 wood won't get the job done. My ball flight with a 3 wood is about as low as it can get without looking like a super thin mishit.

I wouldn't throw out any of my basic clubs to make room for an extra wedge. Nine time out of ten the shot I need from a gap wedge I can get from my 3/4 pw. Wedges become a nusisance when you have more control over your power because then you are left trying to decide which shot you should choose, and seven out of ten times youll choose the wrong one because you want to mash a club to just get it there

i jus had this same dilema... well kinda... i just bought a 50* vokey to fill the gap between my 60* and PW, i used to have a 56* but could not get the distances i needed from it. after purchasing my 50* i considered keeping the 56* but couldnt decide on a club that i wanted to replace it w/

Not sure if my handicap index disqualifies me but here's my ipinion anyway.

I would have done what you did and take of the clubs that I am not comfortable with and eliminate the temptation to go for that 4 iron (more of a liability for my than anything else) when you can choke down on your hybrid or even go with a 5 or 6 iron lay up (normally for my game, a more predictable shot) and pick a full swing wedge to the green then hopefully 1 putt.

More often when I stick to a more conservative game, thats when I get better results.

That is quite a gap you have there. Huge one actually. I would think about getting rid of the 60* and getting at least a 58* or a 56* for sure. Honestly, the large percentage of courses in the world even.. DO NOT REQUIRE A LOB WEDGE. In most cases, you are just setting yourself up for disaster. I see people that have 15 yards of green to work with, 5 feet from the edge, and try to flop the ball all the way there. I admit I use to be one of those players... but I would consider at least a 58*. Or even have your 60* bent strong 2*. Not very expensive and will get you to 58*.

I do not actually believe that the lob wedge should be used for full shots, there is never a situation where a full lob wedge is more accurate than a part of a PW/SW. My clubs run 1W, 3W, 4-SW, and I have yet to find a shot where I absolutely needed a LW/GW or even a 5W (but thats a different subject). But if you are consistently around the green and need the ball to stop I could see how a LW is a convenience but you could accomplish the same thing with an open faced SW.

Instead of looking for one absolute club for a particular distance, practice distance control with all your clubs. Because unless you are in the fairway 100% of the time you will be dealing with an obstacle where you can't use the club you want.

I completely agree. A player shouldnt confine himself to one club for one distance. But then again, that takes more practice.

ya i see wat ur sayin, but it doesnt really effect me too much cuz im more of a bump-and-run type of player so i rarely try to flop chips, the 60* is basically for those short sided chip shots or when i dont think i have enough room to bump it

thats what makes the game interesting, no matter how much you practice you are still only scratching the tip of your potential.

I happen to be in the process of looking for a couple changes with clubs in my bag also. I think what you did was correct if it's what you feel comfortable with and if it matches what your course demands.
