These are numbers from 2007 but I would wager not a lot has changed.  May surprise some of you to know that for a straight, Tiger aims right and his face is aimed left at impact.  That's why he likes to practice with his right hand only and exaggerates the "release" of the toe of the putter.  So one of the best putters in the history of the game and he doesn't aim close to the hole on a straight putt.

Couple of things to note here.

  • Positive AoA.
  • Highest speed before impact.
  • Huge consistency cancels lower "scores."
  • Hits the ball consistently on the toe, with a face consistently left, so they likely neutralize.
  • Lots of face rotation but consistent again at getting the path at impact (not too important on putts) right.
  • Small arcs (you don't hit long putts when doing SAM testing).

The third point above is why Tiger struggled with his putting when he was heavily practicing his new full swing two and three years ago. And unless you practice your putting for 10 hours a week or more, it's exactly why you should strive to aim your putter better to start with, as his "hard toe release" requires a LOT of timing.

    • Day 572 - 2026-04-26 Got almost all of my playlist in with AlmostGolf balls before lessons today.
    • Day 48 (26 Apr 26) - Nice all day light rain (no outside for me) that has been sorely needed - putting stroke drills focused on takeaway equaling follow through.
    • But overall, you're in as good a place as you've ever been. Keep measuring.
    • Went up to Erie, PA. Shorten backswing and control the right elbow Way more wrist flexion from top of swing. Feels like I’m hitting the ball with the toe end of the club. Club still travels back and behind me. In the downswing, the right hip needs to travel down towards the ball as the left hip goes up. Right knee needs to gain more flex as the left loses it. Gain right side bend with hips not upper body.
    • Day 29: played 9. Solid +3, with obvious improvements to come in tee shots. Iron play was much better, short game very good. Might be rounding into form. Also had a solid range season after the round. Started with driver, and then went to working on my priority piece after that. Videos looking decent, although still could use improvement.
