Hello everyone my name is Joe and I am new to TST. I am currently a college student working at one of the most prestigious country clubs in my state. Back in high school when I played for the golf team and played everyday I was easily a 2-3 handicapper but I have dropped to around 9-10 currently. This spring/summer I am dedicating all of my time to getting back to where I was or even better. Golf is by far the one thing I am absolutely passionate about and I recently thought it would be a good idea to look into pursuing a career in it. (i.e. instructor, eventually head pro, etc.) I was hoping that some of the fine folks on here had any tips or advice for me?

Decide early if you want to be an instructor or a head pro.

So which is it?

Its a nice life been a golf pro.If you want to become a coach then one thing i can highly recommend is learning German.Once you become  Qaulified Pro you could apply for work in Switzerland,Germany,or Austria where golf is booming.Im from the UK and moved to Austria 10 years ago.So many people want to play golf here but not enough good teachers wiho speak German

you can spend all day on the range coaching, charging 100 dollars an hour 6 days a week. Its worth considering.I feel in the usa and uk there are so many pros.Unless a big job comes along and your lucky enough to get the job and making money is your prime target then europe i the place.Good Luck, Dave

Most of the people I know who work in the golf industry don't play nearly as much as you'd think.  They spend all their time helping other people with their game, and don't have the time or energy to play as many rounds for themselves.

If I were you I'd consider building a business online.  Up until 3 years ago I was a financial analyst - now I have a series of sites online that make me more than I made as an analyst, and allow me to set my own schedule.

In the summer I'll play about 5 rounds a week, and do my work either in the morning before I play or do it in the evenings.

Just my two cents.

The way I personally look at it, is there are three steps to building a successful online business:

  1. Learn the necessary skills (Wordpress, copywriting, basic SEO etc.)
  2. Pick one skill and freelance in it. I started with SEO.
  3. Take those skills once you have confidence and a base of income and apply them to your own projects (ecommerce, perhaps an info product on golf, or virtual golf lessons)

I treat it as something where I don't have to be in love with the business I do at first, but if it allows me to do more of the things I love (like golf) then it's a good thing.

I started freelancing SEO which wasn't particularly sexy, and now many of my businesses are directly related to things I like.

Not trying to self promote, but see if this post gives you any ideas.

Hope that helps!

You'll absolutely want to build the site on Wordpress.  There are a number of plugins that make it easy to create a membership site, take payment via paypal or other shopping carts, and display videos.

Shoot me a message and I can point you to some links that will help.

This is a great place to start though: http://www.seanogle.com/how-to/how-to-build-a-membership-site

how many hours do you work on your computer? Last two years I been thinking about making money online but I heard it's extremely hard to do so. I would be happy if I could make at least 10$ hr or just 2k a month from online.

Do you sell anything or do you make money from ads? Please help

It totally varies.  Some weeks I'll work 60 hours, this week I've probably worked 5.

You'll put in a fair amount of time upfront to get your business going, but depending on which route you choose to go will dictate how much time you spend on your computer later on.

I make money in a variety of ways, but I have a private course called Location Rebel which is where a big portion of my income is from.  It's a community for people who want to build businesses that allow them to work from anywhere.

Happy to answer any other specific questions and help however I can!

    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
