I want to add a hybrid to my bag, which one?

I am going to add a hybrid to my bag, the problem is I have just re-taken up the game and know just about nothing about them.

The only thing I am fairly sure of is I want either a Ping Rapture or G15 to match the rest of my clubs.

Any suggestions?

I will add my clubs to my sig ASAP.  My current set consists of...

I hit my irons relatively well I believe for a person of my skill level.  I am pretty straight and accurate with my wedge to about 90 yards,  Hit my  5 around 142.  Longer irons and woods I have a slight fade, probably due to not squaring my club face.  I never could hit a 1 wood when I was younger (when woods were wooden and heavy) but can hit this one pretty well.

You seem to like Ping.

You should probably look at a 3H and a 4H, see how they work. Lots of Ping hybrids from a couple of years back are on sale now with big price cuts.

Also, a 3W (esp. a 14*) might be a little hard to hit. Try out a 4W (about +3 degrees loft) if you have trouble with 3W.

I have that exact 3 wood, love it off the tee, just picked up a Adams Super S 17* 2H for this season. It's a lot more versatile from less than perfect lies. Very long club, hit it more like a wood then a iron unless I'm choking up . Sounds like with your length you could drop the 3 wood unless you love it, and fill that huge gap.

Thanks to both of you for your help.

As far as dropping the 3W I might wait a while and see what my distances top at since right now I am just trying to perfect (this word doesn't belong in any golf discussion) a good fluid swing and am not crushing it.  But then again when I was a kid I had a Babe Zaharias 4 or 5 wood that I was in love with so I might trade my 3 for a 4 or 5.  And I believe I will begin looking for a used 3 or 4h. Dumb question #1, do hybrids of one brand of club have the same loft as other brands?  Not so dumb question #2, Should I go with a Rapture hybrid or a G15?  Or does it even matter to try and have matching clubs?

I will concur with WUTiger on the 3 and or 4 hybrids as being a good addition to your setup. No, there will be some variation from brand to brand and even sometimes within a brand on different models as to the loft of their hybrids. I use a couple of older Callaways in 3H and 4H; their lofts are 20 and 23 and they work well for me. I don't feel that it is important to use hybrids of the same brand as your other clubs(see my sig-looks like a bad garage sale,lol). What is more important is that the clubs fill the gap and needs you have. The shaft and flex should probably be comparable to what you use in your fairway woods-providing those work well for you. Sometimes this is easily accomplished by using hybrids from the same brand, but not necessarily so.

Excellent points above.

* Check out the Specification sheet for a particular model of clubs. It will tell you the loft and shaft length for clubs in that model.

* Some models of shafts will have one version for woods and another for hybrids. Main difference: the shorter the shaft in a given flex (driver vs. hybrid), the heavier it is to maintain similar feel in the "model." Take a look at a GolfWorks or Golfsmith clubmaking catalog to see the variety of weights and flexes within a model of graphite shafts.

      A good option is to play the Par 3 courses. after playing an 18 -hole round. The Par 3 courses have 18 holes, we usually played only 9 holes after playing 36 holes on each of the trips we had. You may want to check out Grand National while you're in the middle of Alabama. I enjoyed Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge courses which are a short drive north.

      In August, I am playing the World Am in Myrtle Beach. I do not know which courses yet, but should be a blast. Aside from that, those are the only golf trip plans, unless I play while on vacation in Destin in June.

      Gained a Lot of Club Speed in a Couple of Days With the Same Effort. Try This Out!

      Even on a perfect center hit I was receiving at most 1.48 smash factor. 10 days ago on the warming up for a round my Driver made a weird sound, I checked the bottom and it was cracked. Don't know for how long it was cracked but at least this time the crack was easy visible. Maybe it was already cracked before but with a more subtle crack?.. don't know. I'm waiting for TaylorMade to approve the warranty and send me a new head. I was using the Stealth Plus, I will take the opportunity and upgrade it to the Qi10 LS paying the difference.  On Sunday with my old Titleist 915 and softer balls I was reaching 1.5, even 1.51 on center hits. Test didn't went well. Only gained 2..3 miles, not worth pursuing. Figured out that with a ball and with a target, my path was way to in to out with this new idea, so in order to move the club in the correct path I needed to slow down to redirect the club on the downswing or aim more to the right, close the face a play a big hook.. not possible. I already play a big draw with Driver, more curvature is unplayable. Yesterday at home, with no ball messed around with a more neutral path, even swinging a little out to in. It felt a lot more in sync with the body. With a big in to out path it feels like my hands are working right, away from the body, when the body is working to rotate to the left. With the path to the left is was easier to apply force thru the hitting zone.  As always tested 10 swings with my current swing (A), and 10 with this little out to in path(B).  The difference was huge, like 12 miles faster with swing (B). I knew something wasn't right. The fact was that the PRGR was aligned more in line with the (B) path so it of course was giving higher speeds. I proceeded to align it with the (A) path and tested again 5 more swings each. Again (B) was faster but only by 5 miles. (Made a tiny experiment moving the PRGR to a more extreme in to out path and the swings register 25/30% slower for both swings, so it wasn't reading properly at that angle) Finally I moved the PRGR in the middle of both paths, and this time (B) won by 9 miles. Off course, this was without a ball and a target so.. I will be hitting the range tomorrow to see the real difference.

      At Bent Tree, right? I'm surprised the greens were that slow. I played right around the corner at Northstar and their greens were normal speed. Slightly soft/receptive but not overly so and not slow or shaggy by any means.
