So I've got the golf bug bad at again...back into the game but still not scoring well (taking lessons)  short version question

I have a 60 degree vokey wedge, a 54 degree rx7? (taylormade) and from my new irons a 44 degree pitching wedge.

the 60 degree is tough but I'm good at it for shots that I want to just go up and down and not release on the green...and some chipping near the greens.

sand wedge I'm good up to about 100 yards and I use it out of the sand...It's probably my most versatile and confidence inspiring wedge.

my pitching wedge well I use it 100 yards plus I don't use it or look at it as a wedge I really look at it as a 10 iron if you will...I use it as an iron where the 9 iron is too much club.

any thoughts or input would greatly be appreciated.

A 10 degree gap between your scoring clubs is too much, in my opinion. I would recommend that you look for a 48 or 50 degree gap wedge.

seems like gap is the way to go from asking around at a couple of different places...I was able to purchase my 60 and my 54 second hand at great prices (i'm lefty)  so I will do a search for a good 50 degree.

I think it would be ideal to have had a 56 degree sand so that my gap and sand would have a better loft gap. I'm not a big tinkerer or change clubs often (at least not yet)

Thanks for the help.

It's going to be a little challenging because your PW is really strong at 44 degrees. That's the "standard" loft of a 9 iron. Ideally, you would go 44, 48, 52, 56, 60. But that is a lot of wedges and probably wouldn't leave you enough open spots in the bag for other clubs. I would pick up a used 50 degree, see if you like it and, then, maybe think about purchasing a new set of wedges if needed.

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this. A 44* PW? My 9 iron is 43*. No wonder I'm always taking one more club hahaha

Theres no such thing as a, "standard" loft.  Thats a comment for people who resent the jacked-up lofts of today's irons.  There is no rule that says what loft an iron must be.

Anywho, to the OP Id suggest you look into getting a 50 degree wedge.  It would fill the gap between your PW and 54 degree very well.

I completely agree with you. Which is why I put the word standard in quotations in my post (as did you). I certainly wasn't making an old man-style "get off my lawn" argument about the clubs of yesteryear. I have no resentment toward the lofts of today's clubs. I do think that jacked-up lofts can present an issue with regards to proper spacing between clubs. But, if you have the information, then you can get the right set-up.

I have the razr x callaway 5-pw set that I purchased at an awesome price...think their like a year or two old type of clubs that I was in the market for irons and could not pass up on.

I too find myself going up a club often of what I think I should be using because I'm ending up passed the hole, usually not short of it.  I will search for a nice priced 50 gap.

Thanks all,

I checked the specs on the irons to see what I had, now that I'm more into the game. www.callawaygolf.com/global/en-us/golf-equipment/classic-golf-equipment/razr-x-irons.html the pw shows 44...would have been nice to have had the AW as an option to purchase because it seems to match the loft I'm missing between my sand and PW

Oh I believe you. I just thought it was interesting. Makes you wonder if certain manufacturers do this on purpose to stroke their customers' egos. Say their current PW is a 48* and they hit it 120. They then go to a demo, pick up ::insert manufacturer::'s  PW, which unbeknownst to the golfer is lofted at 44* and hit it 135 and as a result think the club is so much better than their current set. Honestly, how many recreational golfers would think to ask what the loft of the club is?
