So I've got some cavity backs 6-PW, and then a G-S-L wedge set.

When I hit the 6-PW, my swing thought is "down and through," focusing on the need to make contact while the clubhead is still descending. It works... usually...

But if I do that with my blades, I get WAY ahead of it. I wind up taking a divot 4-5 inches ahead of the ball, and hit a super fat shot. The results aren't always terrible, as the resulting low screamers do have a ton of backspin, and are capable of checking up on the green. But obviously it's not an optimal shot.

So my swing thought is to actually tell myself to "scoop" the ball with the G-S-L set... and I just wind up hitting it right.

Why is this happeneing? This is weird...

That's a massive thin not fat. If you were catching it fat you would make a divot starting behind the ball. I agree though it is weird because if what you say is correct you must be coming into the ball above where you addressed it with a descending blow and knifing it right in the middle. The only tip I can think of is to try concentrating on making contact with the bottom of the ball through impact. I wouldn't consciously think about 'scooping' it because this will only make you thin it more

Too much arms, not enough body.

Alright, so I got my golf terms reversed... but yeah I do like the advice. I am capable of hitting every club 6-LW consistently well (the hybrids are another story), i just found it very odd that they act like this. Thanks.

Check out Golf Digest for July, p.80. Adam Scott show how he minimizes hand action on partial wedges by relying on hip turn for power.

GD had other articles this spring dealing with wedge swings.
