Did they forget to write down the exact specifications?

He's "having trouble replacing" it? I thought he had another one in his locker at the Barclay's...

At the level of the best pros, a good pro can be given 20 identical drivers according to manufactured specifications and the pro can consistently find one of the 20 to be worst of the whole 20 sample.  And can consistent spot one that is better than the rest.

Technically there are small differences that most golfers cannot discern, but the better golfers can pick out.

I'd need to be convinced about that. Do you have a reference to anything that backs this up?

I'd agree...I suspect it isn't just the "head" of the driver...feel is an important factor and so is the "mental" side...

It is very possible he has the exact shaft and head and weight but it just doesn't feel the same...Add to that if he hits a couple bad shots with the one's he is testing he may be convinced he can't hit a good one.

Allthough I'm only a 2 handicap I know the identical clubs off the shelf will seem to perform differently.
