I want a new driver, but...

... I don't want an ultralight tin can on a stick. I hit an older Mizuno T-zoid forged right now. I like the solid feel at contact and the sound is not a hollow "tink". Its a nice sound. Are there any solid feeling and sounding drivers out there? I have tested many on the market and they all feel way too light and sound just horrible on a solid hit. Should I just stick with the Zoid? The reason I was considering a switch was that I have been seeing golfers lately with less swing speed and skill then myself hit these new drivers as far as me if not farther. Its a tad demoralizing.

There are not buts here. I hit a Cal Great Big Bertha for 15 years and loved it. Could hit it anywhere, anyplace, but couldn't keep up. Did a hotstix fitting on a Adams Bull and had it reshafted. Made me realize not to be stubborn with the new technology.

Hi there, I think I know what you are saying. I have way too many of the "newer" style drivers and of all of them the origanal Hibore has the most "solid" small head feel to me. Part of that old school feeling is the need to tee it up low and the Hibore performs at it's best when tee'd low. The sound is certainly a little different but not enough to cringe at.....2 cents.....and good luck!

Honestly I haven't met anyone who is more concerned with the driver's sound than its performance. Okay, I admit I'm one of them, but only when it comes to Nike SUMO2 though. I just can't stand its sound.

Anyway, if you somehow manage to search for Golf Digest's 2006 Hot List page online, there's a cool audio option to listen to how all the drivers on the list sound when hit. I remember Ping Rapture as one with the best sound and later on I found out that in fact it's true with my friend's Rapture at the range. Another is r7 460, which I happen to have at the moment. It produces a really nice "DING" sound compared to r7 SuperQuad, which is more like "THWACK." The Callaway, for instance FT-5 and FT-i have loud and suppressed "THWACK" sound, perhaps because of its carbon composite crown.

Oh, did you know that the type of tee you're using affect the sound when a ball is hit by a driver?

I always like Titleist driver sound.... not too loud...

If you are old school but looking for a new driver.... I think Titleist driver might be for you.

I tried alot of different drivers this season. I think the Titleist Driver had one of the more solid feel and sound.

I was also going to recomend the titlest driver if you're concerned about the sound. The technology has pretty much caught up to every company. If you don't want the loud ping sound, then don't even consider the HiBore XL, I have to think about putting earplugs in every time I swing mine! It sounds more like an aluminum baseball bat.
