I am thinking about switching around some clubs. I have a 13* Callaway X 3-wood which is great for tight and dogleg par fours and I can hit it around 250yds. off the tee. But it is a dead stick for me off the fairway. I can't get it high enough to suit my taste off of the fairway. I am toying with the idea of getting a Callaway FT Hybrid 14* and getting rid of my Sonartec 4-wood.

Not sure if I should do this or maybe look at the Callaway X Hot 3-wood that is 15* but is 44" long and use that to replace my 13* wood. The X-Hot being longer than a standard 3-wood but with a 15* loft maybe be the right answer, but the 14* hybrid could hold some different trajectory shots potential. I read the review of the X-Hot but just wondered if anyone had any opinions or experiences with either club?

I'm also thinking of adding in a 2-hybrid since I cannot hit my 3 wood with consistency off the deck while I'm able to blast my 3 & 4 TM Rescue Mid anywhere. I have not seen anyone on a course though with 1 or 2 hybrids yet.

I had the same problem you have with your Callaway 3 wood. I bought a Cobra Baffler DWS Hybrid 16 degrees to take the place of my 3 wood. That was the lowest loft that Cobra offered. I loved the club and used it for most of this summer. What I particularily liked about the Cobra hybrid was how easy it was to get up in the air and accuracy wasn't a problem. However, I am a little short off the tee and I was looking for a bit more distance. Enter Titleist, which offered the 906F4 15.5 degree fairway wood a few weeks ago. I first read about that club on this website, in the Review section, in an excellent article written by Erik. I tried out the club and found my blueberry hill! It is very easy to get up in the air and the distance is better than the hybrid, in part because of the slightly lower loft and in part because of the longer shaft.

A low lofted hybrid can really be the bees knees, but you owe it to yourself to try the new Titleist 906F4 3 wood. Good luck.

I like the X-hot 3 wood a lot, it's great for me off the deck, though I suck at hitting it off a tee. From the deck it's 230 - 245 yards and pretty straight no matter how I mishit it :)

i have a 1h and a 2h. i hit the 15° higher than the 18° i guess because of the shaft difference. i hit both well, i replaced a calloway xhybrid in 18° im like you i got them because i cant hit a 3 wood off the deck. it was a good decision for me, maybe it will work for you too.

I use a 2 hybrid and it's prbably 17*. It's one of my most consistent club.
I replaced it for 5 wood, which I rarely used.
It doesn't go as far as 5 wood, but much easier to hit for me.

Ditch your current 3 and 4 woods and get a 15* 3 Wood and a 17* Hybrid. The extra loft will be a little more forgiving off the deck. The idea is that you want to do the most you can with of all your clubs in your bag.

I hit my 15* 3 wood about 260 off the tee and my #2 Hybrid about 240 off the tee.
