Why is taylormade drivers and fairways woods so much more used on the tour than titleist and callaway and other top brands. WHY ARE THEY SO GOOD. I've never tried one so I'd like to get some information about them.

Are they long, straight, forgiving, workable???
Thanks in advance.

Jack,

They are very good and TayorMade also pays $$$$ for each wood pros put in the bag.

Yes thanks for the reply guys, I realise they pay big $$$ to get pro's to use them, but they also must be good because a lot of people who aren't paid use them, so what is so good about them: are they:
-Long
-Straight
-Forgiving
-Workable
-High/Low?

I don't agree that Taylormade woods are long at all, I have hit plenty of woods that go further than them. I think the reason that so many Taylormade woods are used is that because of their MWT they are very straight and also Taylormade pays players a lot of money to use their products.

I definitely think TM drivers are the longest drivers.
MWT also helps a bit.
People always think money has a lot to do with what the players use but if you ask any pro, they'll tell you that once you get to their level of playing and with how much money they make on tour, its not about money. The worst player with a PGA tour card is a millionaire. Seriously, would you use a taylormade driver to get paid $1 million a year and give up winning one of the majors because you have a sorry driver in your bag?
I dont think so. Especially if you're as passionate about the game as they are.

all my woods are Taylormade - i can hit Titleist and Callaway woods pretty decently and sometimes futher but overall, the Tayloymade clubs find the target more often - i would say they're the most forgiving woods i've tried. I try to get clubs that make the game as easy as possible (so i got semi-cavitys instead of muscle backs, 10.5 loft in a regular driver rather than 8.5 in a tour driver, etc...)

To answer your question, they are remarkably long. Here's the deal - they make the regular line for us average joes and they make a tp line. The average joe line is meant to fly high and forgiving shots on off center ones, but not very workable. The tp line (dangerously expensive, $100 to $300 more, but it's what the pros play)is meant to fly low and be very workable, consequently, not forgiving. Taylor Made gives you the options, you just have to play around with them, no pun intended.

Its because of their "inverted cone technology" and their fujikura rombax shaft. Not to mention their marketing. If you really want to know the details, just go to

The 'inverted cone' technology is marketing babble....it is the same thing as what Callaway called 'VFT'. As for the fuji shafts....that is what you will find on Callaways.

I myself am a Callaway/TaylorMade fan...playing both brands..so I am impartial (however I am currently using a Taylor R7). As for the list of tour players endorsing a brand....remember folks...what they are playing is not the same club off the shelf. Beyond the stock material...they also have customizations (they have club making vans at each event that modify as required). For instance...you can't get the configurations that Tiger has. You can't get the same Odyssey #9 putter that Phil is using. etc. It is just an endorsement. For woods....I say you cannot beat either Taylor or Cally. Just a matter of personal preference and to the eye.

In my personal experience:

Callaway: Much less forgiving, a tournament player club, very low handicap. Workable, VERY playable for fades and draws. More advance of a driver

while...

Taylormade: Overal better. Not as long, but much, much more forgiving. Harder to work, but the ball just goes straight.

I used to spray my callaway 315 yds, left right backward... everywhere. Switched to the superquad, and although I may only get it out there 300 on a good poke, its dead straight everytime. The taylormade seems to have a MUCH higher lofty ball flight.

Yes thanks for the reply guys, I realise they pay big $$$ to get pro's to use them, but they also must be good because a lot of people who aren't paid use them, so what is so good about them: are they:

What matters is the swing and the impact. Figuratively TaylorMade is cherry flavor of your favorite gum, while Callaway is orange, Titleist is apple, etc.

Seriously, it's how good you are NOT how good your club is. However, to answer your question I think there's a good reason why TaylorMade claims to be "#1 Driver in Golf" similar to Titleist's "#1 Ball in Golf." You be the judge.

I switched from a Titleist 983k to a Taylor Made r7 425 driver because it was more forgiving on miss hits for me. I tried a friends R5 TP driver and liked it and have been playing that club for the last 8+ months.

My buddy, James is a 3 handicap golfer still plays with a 983k Titleist but he hits it more consistently that I do, he's like the Bryon machine.

I recently compared my old Titleist 983K and R5 on the driving range and noticed that after several drives that my R5 was longer and kept it in my bag. If I were to replace this driver I would consider either the Taylor Made
r7 SuperQuad TP or Taylor Made new Burner TP.

I also love the magnetic head covers on my TP driver.

If you want a magnetic headcover...you can buy a TaylorMade branded magnetic headcover for $30 vs the hundreds more for the TP driver.

I myself....bought a generic magnetic heacover for $15. They are great....especially with the 460cc pumpkin sized heads. Magnetic covers should be standard for all big head driver!
