Got an email about a month ago saying Tourcast was done and a new live scoring system was going to be new for 2008. Anyone know any info on this?

I'm still awaiting word on what this system will be, too. Maybe it'll be something slightly better than Tourcast, but free.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I tried it the few times they had it for free and found it a ackward and slow site. Full of information dont get me wrong I just think that the average golf fan doesnt want that much info. Maybe if they made it free for 6 or 7 years got people hooked on it and then started charging they would be better off. Sort of like they did with there fantasy golf.

i thought it was great. It was the only way to follow an entire round of golf for your favorite player until last year when the live scoring statered using the play by play. Though the Tourcast had it totally beat because it showed things on an animated course modeled after the real one. I thought it would be neat if you carry a hand held device on the golf course at a tournament so you could keep track of other players while following your favorite pairing. I am pretty sure only family and friends of pro players really subscribed to this service along with the true golf fanatics,

I got this email yesterday from tourcast. I must have gotten an email before and forgot about it.

Dear valued TOURCast customer,

At the end of last season, we let you know that the PGA TOUR is no longer offering TOURCast. We believe that the benefits of TOURCast should be made available to more golf fans like yourself, but in order to do that we had to reinvent the technology behind it. In the process, we've also rethought some of its features and the way to follow each tournament.

A new live scoring product based on the PGA TOUR's on-course shot tracking system will be introduced this season. It is currently still in development. As a former TOURCast customer, you have the ability to help us evaluate, test and give feedback on this new product.

In the next couple of weeks, look for an email from us describing how you can get a first look at this exciting new product and how you can help us evaluate and test it. We'll also keep you updated along the way if you decide not to participate.

In the meantime, thank you for your loyalty as a TOURCast customer and your passion and interest in PGA TOUR golf. And check out the new PGATOUR.COM, if you haven't already. The site has been newly designed for the 2008 season and contains more player info, news and video than ever before!

Regards,
PGATOUR.COM Team

I liked it. The best way to follow individual golfers. Looking forward to the new program to "test". On a similar topic, how close do you think we are to the day when we can pay per view a golfers round? They do it with NASCAR right now. Seems to me with all the cameras there they could dedicate 4 to 6 for a golfer for their entire round. Probably could even have a morning roung and an afternoon round for Thursday/Friday. To me (and I know they need the advertising money) the golf channel should start coverage with the first tee time and end it when the last player finishes.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
