I'm just returning to golf after four months away and would appreciate any exercises/drills that would help get me back in reasonable form.

When I went to the driving range earlier this week, the biggest problems I experienced were stiffness or lack of flexibility and secondly, poor tempo. I suspect the lack of swing speed and poor ball striking could be attributed to the above.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thanks and all the best for the new year.

Off course pick up a club (or two) and practice your positioning at the top, impact and follow through in slower motion. Work this drill everyday to groove what you know you should do. If you have a weighted club, this can help with tempo as well. Now is the time to get those fundamentals back by working your swing postions, making sure you are square in your set-up and making smooth, compact and continuous swings.

When you feel good, take it to the range and try to keep the smoothness with you. Good luck.

When my tempo feels lost, I concentrate on finishing my backswing, pausing, and then finishing the swing. I seem to regain it pretty quickly. It worked for me after I stopped for a few months due to quals. Give it a try.
