Just watched Tiger shoot a flawless 65 in Dubai - 7 birdies, 13 pars, 2 shot lead from the morning starters.

Watch out for Henrik Stenson who's 4 under thru 6 holes!

Both gents love this course and have won here - could be a great weekend of golf. And a note - Mark O'Meara is -2 finished

You meant to say

11 pars and 7 birdies. Even Tiger might have a hard time shooting a 65 playing 20 holes. I agree, it's going to be great weekend for golf!

What a flawless round of golf by the true master of the game! He shot 65 but could easily have been 62 or 63 if some of his putts had dropped rather than staying on the edge. I know everyone can say that but still, the man is a legend and yet again is going to win another tournament, the question is by how many?

tiger better look out for ian

Other than looking for Tiger's score the first person that looked for on the leaderboard was to see how Ian Poulter followed up his talk this week.

T43, not exactly sizzling.

I'm personally a little disappointed. Tiger played well. He could have played much better. Off the tee box he improved from last week. However, he was no where near his putting from the Buick. He mentioned that in his interview. Hopefully he'll put everything together soon and we can see what "Tiger's Year" is going to look like at full potential.

I doubt anyone in the history of golf has said, "I was pretty disapointed with that 65," at least not without incurring a prolific beating from his playing partners. Tiger's standard is getting out of hand. Bogey-free, 7 birdies, and we're talking about how he could have played better.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

haha yes rangerat - well spotted ;) 11 pars sounds more like it!

at least tiger isn't out at 6am on tv tomorrow, i can take a lie in :)

as for master Poulter - he claimed that he would be challenging tiger when (if) he reaches his full potential. not that he currently was as good/better today.
methinks he's just doing it to stir it up to sell more clothes.

Well now he definitely did not say he was disappointed. He simply mentioned that he putted terribly.

Personally it excites the crap out of me to hear him say that. -7 could quickly turn into -14 no problem.

got up at 7:30am on my holidays to see if anyone caught Tiger.

Nope!

My Irish boys doing well, Gary Muphy 6 under, Gmac 5 under. Stenson 5 also.

The Wind is up in the desert so watching Tiger will be great!

Tiger looking ominous today. Rolled some good putts thru 8 holes.

He's wearing shades - probably due to the sand in the air the commentators have been saying.

Poulter had a 71 today, finished -3.

Irish Boys going well still!

wow 31 european tour victories? I believe this includes Majors and WGC as these are co-sanctioned events. He used to be a regular at the Deutsche Bank in Germany but that tournament is gone now

So a one shot lead for Tiger going into the weekend, with his nearest competitor being the Irish lad Damien McGrane. It is going to be an amazing experience for McGrane getting to play with Woods on Saturday, I hope he copes with the situation well - I have seen him play a few times and I think he could do ok alongside the true legend.

Tiger WILL win this tournament, but maybe it might be a little closer than we first imagined. There are a few big names in contention, Els, Stenson and Garcia to name three! Going to be an exciting weekend I think

    • One thing that has helped me tremendously is to spray the club face with foot powder when I am on the range. Seeing ball impact can be quite helpful if you are hitting shots all over the place. It's not the cure all, but a good little thing to do on the range. The other thing, and I will forget to do it, is the pre-shot routine. Find me a spot a foot or so from the ball in-line with my target, take my stance, take the swing.  Sometimes you take a BS practice swing with no thought. Make it deliberate.  As far as swing thoughts. I have 3 check-points. First is set-up, Second is my take away, Third is my downswing. I cant explain what I think I just know in my mind. Its a feeling that I have that feels right and experience has shown that if I follow those 3 thoughts more than likely the outcome will be what I was looking for. Now, thinking about the feeling and executing it properly is a whole different thing, that;s why I practice, I used to be over a 20 handicap, I am down to a 15.1 in about a year.  I feel like its good progress. the goal is a 10 by the end of the year. If I make it great, if not, hey at least Im not in Gaza. LOL
    • I usually shy away from giving advice on a golf swing since so many here are more qualified than I am.  You might try the following:  Create a "MySwing" page on this  site and you will get a lot of good advice Filter all of the advice and try to only focus on one or two things at a time.  Unfortunately it is very hard, if not impossible, to constantly change different things at the same time.  Figure out what is the most important thing to work on at this moment in your golf swing and focus on that until you have it engrained, then move on the the next change. Remember, we all have both good & bad shots.  The difference between the pros and us hackers is the ratio of good to bad shots. Understand that a bad swing can occasionally look like a great result and a good swing can occasionally have a bad result.  The key is to focus on one thing and work to get that as consistent as possible.  Ideally that will gradually increase the number of good shots vs bad shots.    Do not forget to have fun.
    • So close, that is frustrating.
    • You need to stick with one instructor as long as they’re not terrible. There’s no blueprint to improving a golf swing and different instructors may see different things as being more important and try to fix them. The end result is you get a hodge podge of things to work in that may not be cohesive or necessarily help you. If you stick to one instructor and communicate to them as such, they’ll also be able to work out a roadmap to your improvement which is more beneficial in the long run. If a guy assumes you’re just coming in for one lesson you might end up with a band aid.
